Get what you can afford, then be prepared to listen. A LOT. Listen to every CD you have. Listen to different CD's every chance you get. Switch CD's a lot, listen. Listen to CD's you have been listening to for years. Listen to mixes you have done before gettting the new monitors. The amount of time ...

KRKs the room

Yeah, those Rokit ones seem to be pretty hot right now. I've heard good things about them, and the price is right. Other than frequency response what impact does the size of the monitor have. Am I better off getting some reasonable 8" cones so I get a larger frequency range, or would it be better to...

Room Treatment

Definately, I think right now I have to get out of headphones for mixing though. The room is in a basment too, so all the walls are cinder block and the floor is concrete. There will be some serious treament required. I do have some extra matresses I can use :) Are the active really that bad in that...

Buying Monitors.

I'm looking to invest in some monitors for home studio. They will be used for mixing and tracking, and the room is pretty small, 9x9ish. I'd like to stay in the <$500 range. I've heard great things about monitors such as Events TR8s, but in a room of this size would these be overkill? I just read th...

Grounding and Snakes

In my current setup I have my ADAT and Tascam M-308 going into (and out of) a Behringer Patchbay using 4 eight channel snakes. I noticed on the snakes there seems to be a small wire that comes out with the 1/4" plugs, is this a common ground wire? Right now it just dangles, but if it is a ground wir...

Re: Selecting a mastering studio.

Tell him you were referred by RTFM Records and I'm sure he'll cut you a sweet deal. Hey, thanks for referral... I had a hunch about the advertised rate. Given that this guy is local, and seems to have a good reputation, I 'll have to give him a call. Perhaps a little consultation hear some of his w...

Re: Selecting a mastering studio.

Since I am relatively new to this, being able to attend the session is something I really want to do. Mastermind is close to home so that works out. I'll just have to work something out with them regarding the cost, this is going to be a short run/self financed venture.

Re: Selecting a mastering studio.

I haven't contacted mastermind, but when I looked at the website the only rate I could find was like $200/hr. Is that common for mastering, it seemed very high to me? They are actually local for me, so it would very easy for me to attend the session there. That is why I looked initially, but I thoug...

Re: Selecting a mastering studio.

Pardon the ignorance, but how would I do that? I'm tracking to an ADAT, and the only two track I have is my Tascam 22-2. I'm assuming to get the audio to some digital format I would need some digital recorder, be it a PC or whatever. Now given that the ADAT is a digital machine, are there any shortc...

Re: Selecting a mastering studio.

I really did hope to avoid cold calling people, just because that is time consuming and generally un productive. I've also learned enough reading posts here and magazine articles not to be impressed by a list of gear also. I'll have to ask around locally, and hopefully get some client samples. I was...

Selecting a mastering studio.

I'm currently working on tracking in my basement, and I intend to do the mixes here as well, but when that is all done, I'd like to have it mastered by a pro. This is going to be small budget short run project. When I'm shopping around though, what kind of questions should I be asking besides rates,...

Re: FS: Morely Pro-Series II

C'mon, somebody has to have a cheap mic they want to trade for a bad ass guitar effect. :)

I'm also looking for an ADAT LRC for a blackface if anybody has one they want to get rid of.

FS: Morely Pro-Series II

I'm getting rid of my Morely Pro Series II Wah pedal, I figured I'd offer it up here first. If no one here wants it, it is off to the local guitar joint. Make me an offer, Milwaukee pick woul be ideal, but I'll ship it if need be. I would actualy be more interested in a trade than cash...I need budg...

Re: Remembering what you played...

What I've done in the past is do a quick recording on my porta02, but before I make the recording I play it over and over, not nessecarily so I don't mess it up in the recording, but to train my fingers. The combination of the recording and the muscle memory helps me. I've picked up tapes that I've ...

Ibanez HD1500 Delay/Harmonizer

Have any of you ever used one of these. I've had it for quite some time now and used it as a guitar effect in a live setup. I'm interested in using it in my home studio now, and wanted to know about some more advanced uses, like how to use the feedback loop, and other considerations for recording wi...
