I made some a few months ago. I don't have a digital camera here at the moment, but I will post a link to pictures later on this week. I used about 36 inches of PVC piping mounted on top of a 12' square piece of wood. that piece of wood was bolted onto a 16' square piece of wood which acts as a leve...

One thing to remember with a mixer is that although they are really useful, they are filled with hidden expenses...well, not hidden, but expenses that you are blind to when you stare at a mixer in a store and become enveloped by all the knobs, meters and what not. I have spent more than the price of...

Can someone help with Mogami Quad wiring?

I'm not quite sure how to wire this stuff up. I have about 20 feet of it (I just wanted to check it out). I'm putting Neutrik TRS on each end.

So, my question is - how is it wired? Is it both blue to ring and both white to tip?

THanks for your help.

Re: Analog mixer users - what do you 2-track to?

I should have jumped on the Rosetta's a few months ago. Now they are going on Ebay for $700-800. Too much if you ask me. Bring down to $500-600 and I'm in. It seems that there is a lack of 2 channel nice conversion these days. I don't know why else the Rosetta's have gone up in price in recent month...

What are your thoughts on the Masterlink?

How are the converters? Can you compare them to any others on the market?

Re: Analog mixer users - what do you 2-track to?

It seems like having a back up when mixing is crucial... I generally am mixing back into my computer, but if I have a bunch going on in the mix while its in the computer as a multi-track, and I am rerecording the 2 track back in, it can cause some issues. I'm looking around at reel to reel deck at t...

Re: I wanna get my (recording) feet wet..

if you can get your g4 to function it will be a big step in getting your budget to work better.. Indeed! Get that thing working! It could also be good to teach you how to use certain kinds of gear for relatively cheap. There are lots of decent cheap/free comp plug-ins out there that will at least a...

Re: Analog mixer users - what do you 2-track to?

Hah! I've always wondered about that! The only thing I was unsure about was the inputs on the machine. I assume that they would be unbalanced.. It does make sense, though. Its wide tape, available, cheap - it even has timecode potential...visions of 12 vcrs racked up all running on timecode dance th...

Re: I wanna get my (recording) feet wet..

I MOST DEFINITELY agree with the monkey part!! But in reality, I think that what people are saying about just doing it is key. There was a LONG thread on here the other day about the Chili Peppers/home studios/'indie' recordings, etc. that I think might be helpful if you read it. Basically, the gear...

Re: I wanna get my (recording) feet wet..

If you are looking for mics, well, there is NOTHING wrong with starting out with a Shure SM-57 (or 3). They can be used in many, many situations and they are great for teaching you how to work within limits. It seems that a lot of what you do is midi based stuff, eh? I have a Focusrite Twintrak Pro....

Re: Analog mixer users - what do you 2-track to?

Oh how I wish I could go to tape...But with the current Quantegy 'situation,' I feel like I will end up liking it a lot but then find myself spending a lot on tape...not to mention the fact that I would have to spend a decent amount on a deck that doesn't sound like junk. Are there any 2 track decks...

Analog mixer users - what do you 2-track to?

I use Digital Performer as my Daw. DP outputs individual tracks via my 1224's to my analog desk. Then I reroute the stereo master back into DP for the final mix. I'm wondering what other people mixdown to. Do you do the same? If so, do you have dedicated converters for the process? Or do you go to t...
