Re: 5881 vs. 6L6
ive only switched tubes in my amp once. a fender hot rod deville 2x12. thing sounded like total ass untill i put all EH 12ax7s and 6L6s in it. it actually sounded like a god damn guitar amp. ive never used any other tube, but the EH ones were rediculous compared to the stock fender groove tubes (wh...

Re: 5881 vs. 6L6
Tesla/JJ or Winged C 6L6's are a good choice. I'd stay away from Shuguang, Ruby, Sovtek, E-H or Svetlana power tubes. Check some 6L6 tube reviews here: http://thetubestore.com/6l6review.html The Svetlana 6L6's are amongst the best 6L6 in present production. Mine will absolutely cream Tesla 6L6's. T...

Re: What do you hate about modern records?
I would have to say lack of dynamics, uninteresting song writing, and super loud uber compressed music. Most new bands are just a bunch of haircuts with cool shoes on stage playing very uninterseting and poorly written songs with every singer sounding like Robert Smith. At least if someone did the 8...

Re: Fender Gtr. Amp Choices
twin 2 = bag of shit. If it has the red knobs on it, keep running. The old silver face ones are cool. You can get it "blackfaced" for not a lot of cash. If you can find an old silver face model and slap new speakers in it you are in heaven. IMO the original speakers in the silver faces were Eminence...

Re: can anyone talk to me about the yamaha md8?
Like I said, the only thing we use it for is as a glorified tape 8-track to record our jams at our jamspace. I think they sound terrible. I never had the heart to tell our guitar player how crappy it sounded because he spent about $1500 CDN on it when they first came out. Plus there are only 2 phant...

Re: What should i expect from a good tube mic?
though this doesn't answer your question (I couldn't topped the previous posts) I've been contemplating this recently too. The only tube I have in my collection is the RODE NTK. When I first got it I was really digging what it did but lately I just think it's been sounding harsh. It's got a very si...

Re: Power strips/ surge suppressors
looking at the PL-Pro for my racks of pres ect. Price seems pretty good about $320. Checked out the brick wall stuff. Good prices on that too. Sorry for my ignorance about this, but would I use the brickwall surge protection, then plug the Furman units and computer into that?

Re: Power strips/ surge suppressors
Was just on the Furman site. Totally confused as to what I need. Looked at the AR15. Do I need one of these for every rack I have? One rack is full of mic pres, the other with eq's, comps ect. So do I need an Ar-15 or a PL-2 or what???? I dont want to spend a shitload of cash but a few hundered on e...

Re: Does anyone else have dreams about recording?
My buddy had a dream that he and I were doing some tracking. He kept putting only the left side of the mix through an Electroharmonix Black finger bass compressor. I kept bitching at him as to why he would do such a thing. He left the room and when he came back in he saw me pouring a glass of milk o...

We used them to record our rehearsals and new material that the band was working on. That is it. those mini discs are a pain in the ass.

Re: 5881 vs. 6L6
As far as I know 5881 is the European designation number for a 6L6. kind of like ECC83 is the same as 12AX7, ECC81 is a 12AT7 ect. Hope that helps.

Re: BLUE lollipop capsule for AKG 451?
I thought about the C28 thing as well. they are kind of hard to find though. I was looking for one last year but never found one so I spent the cash elswhere. I think I will consider the lollipop capsule now. Did any of you guys try it on vocals?

Re: BLUE lollipop capsule for AKG 451?
I just asked this question on a thread about the Blue Ball and Robbie pre. A guy over on the 3db audio forum likes his a lot and that is what got me thinking. I think the capsule is $450 US. I am very curious as well. I think it is probably C-12ish, and wont sound exactly like one. Obviously a C-12 ...

Re: Soundelux iFET7
Anyone had the pleasure? http://www.mercenaryaudio.com/soundeluxifet7.html a FET '47 and U87 clone in ONE mic. Their stuff is generally good. I'm curious. thx DR I had one of these. A soundelux iFET7. It sounded cool but I sold it because the stand mount pissed me off so much, as did Soundelux. I s...
