Joey's song is way cooler! I'm just quoting the last of three or so posts that I find completely unnecessary. It makes me think there's some kind of clique-y macho posing going on here. Maybe I'm being over sensitive (I usually am) but what's the point of bringing your personal tastes to this threa...

Sweep tone
Logic has a test tone with a sweep. I could rip an aiff or wav of it if anyone would like.

Headphones
Does anyone have a comment as to the sound quality of the AKG K171 or K271. They are supposed to be good for isolation. The Sony HN-7506 remote headset was reviewed in "Recording" as good for that, too. I'm lovin' my Beyer DT990s. Open back, though. --correction: the review was for the REMOTE AUDIO ...

Question:
Do you guys actually talk about gear that you want? Seriously, I can't imagine talking about gear to my wife. Nothing against her, but it would certainly put her to sleep. So how do they know? Answers from the people with lay relatives only.
Cheers all 'round

EV 664 cables
I've been waiting for a good buy on a 664 for a while. I always take into account the fact that cables are hard to come by and not cheap. You can get them here:

Re: firewire hd fan question
Can you give us some details about your system? Your internal drive should be able to record a lot more than just one track of audio at a time. What depth and rate are you using as well?

Re: laptop recording- external firewire drive question
The fact is that if you are doing multitrack audio even at 44.1k (and you'll want to use 24 bit audio) your computer will be able to handle throughput of a lot of tracks. However, certain plug-ins use hard drive bandwidth like crazy and someday in the future you'll want faster read/write access. Don...

Re: LAPTOP REOCORDING , HELP!!
Oooh, oooh, I want some good karma please! I use a MAC, but at this point, either platform will serve you. If you are more familiar with either platform, go with that. The steeper learning curve is for the operating system. Are you particularly interested in any software? Some are not made for both ...

Re: How to set up old iBook for recording, on the cheap?
I'm happy with the MOTU 828. You could get the 896 as well. TC electronics is coming out with a firewire version of their PCI card which can help when you reach the processing limit of your iBook. My guess is that you'll be happy learning about computer recording on the iBook and will be itching to ...

Re: Computer recording basics
Wow, That's quite a question there. If you've plugged into your soundcard, that's a good start. That is the very basis of recording with the computer. You are going to need: 1. Hardware, 2. Software. Hardware will be your audio interface. If you are mostly interested in recording audio (like me), yo...
