No need for apologies -- the question got answered!! :) Thanks for the suggestions -- I'll try the "flipping the phase" trick with the original tambourine part and the instrumental stem. And if that doesn't work, I'm sure a bit of EQ during mastering will improve things somewhat. (It's not like the ...

"just say you were listening to lots of 60's records where the tambourine is the loudest thing on the record." Or 70s! It seems like a lot of early 70s tracks have some percussion element that just seems insanely loud. My three-year-old daughter loves the song "Dancing in the Moonlight" by King Harv...

Reducing/removing a tambourine from a finished mix?
I'm kicking myself over a last-minute mix decision that sounded fine in the studio but now sticks out like a sore thumb -- a busy tambourine part that's just a bit too loud during two sections of a song. The best fix, of course, would be to remix the song, but that's probably not feasible. So I'm ho...

Re: Remembering what you played...
Why the hostility from the "just practice" folks? I don't think it's an issue of anyone being lazy, just different creative approaches. "Writing" each part and practicing it until you know it in your sleep is certainly one way to go. But for me, it's not an issue of remembering parts, it's coming up...

Re: thoughts on budget drum mics??
Thanks for much for the collective insight!
At this point, I'm leaning toward the Audio-Technica Pro 25 or the CAD KBM412 for the kick drum and a pair of the Oktava 012s for overheads. Hoping those, along with my SM57 on the mic, will give me a good four-mic setup.
thanks again,
David

thoughts on budget drum mics??
For an upcoming project, I'll need to record a full kit. (Most of my home recording projects thus far has involved drum machines augmented by tambourine, shaker, etc.) I already own a couple of mics suitable for the snare, but I'd like to pick up a dedicated kick drum mic plus a couple overheads. An...
