As long as there is an intern or assistant who knows the (newer/weirder/techmade) equipment, isn't afraid to say if something isn't good, and isn't snotty, I can get by with most setups. I get a kick out of trying some locally made piece of gear or something new, as long as the bases are covered. bu...

My buddies car was broken into while he was hanging out at my place (in Boston) last night. Along with a bunch of CDs and papers they stole an:

Intermark Cipher Bass

I don't know the serial number, and I'll ask him, but there can't be too many of those going around.

I got one of those sort of for the same reason and ended up returning it after tracking a few things through it (to test it out). Other than bass it pretty much sounded terrible on everything. Muddy but sizzley (can a tone description get worse?ha). The different eq preset things are funny for a cou...

oh, also, i A/Bed the altec's direct outs (from the individual 1588c) against the balanced output of the automixer and found that it had a bit less bass and more mids and highs through the outputs of the automixer itself. Going through the balanced output, there was enough gain to supply the sm7 too...

Hey, Just a heads up, I'm back and I tested it going directly into the 002. It definitely does have low end. Must have been the way I had it going through the board. A/Bed it with a modern pre, a focusrite isa220, which i generally don't like, but it was the easiest to patch in. with a 58 the altec ...

yeah, it's got the 1588c cans in it. the hp caps i replaced were the switchable ones and they're off on two out of three of the channels. I wonder if it's because i'm going into the inserts, but on the board the tape ins are supposed to be balanced, (it's also a touch reach cable wise). I don't reme...

i'm just getting the hang of this impedance thing. my impression is that you always want the output to be as low impedance as possible, and the input to be as high as possible (at least when dealing with solid state stuff). so i just wired it for 150 ohm impedance. i feel like i'm off somewhere. . ....

impedance of the main out on the 1628a

hey guys, i'm trying to figure out how to wire the main outs on the 1628a for a balanced connection into the line in's on my board (it's an old board, but uses LF356 opamps at the input, so is pretty high impedance i think). the back has 5 lugs labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. 1 and 2 have squares next to the...

i'm not sure if you mean, process the copy in the same way as the original signal, or do it in sort of an opposite (mirror image maybe) kind of way, or maybe both of those are way off.... i think you're overthinking it. it's less complicated than that. the core of the idea is that you double the tra...
