Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to actually hear what's coming out of Logic without setting up a bus that then goes to a master out. I can hear output 1-2 but not 3-4 without doing this. It also seems like it's impossible to then use headphones in any other software. Like for example i...

I control monitoring through the audiofire console. Select a tab for a pair of outputs then mute/unmute/pan each channel as appropriate. I haven't found a way to do this in my DAW (Reaper or Nuendo) that didn't delay the headphone signal or cause other issues.

Obviously you can't record everything live at once ;) The hardest part for me is getting sounds and monitoring. I can't listen through the monitors while I play a loud guitar amp or drums. I have good headphones but it's not the same. So I spend a lot of time tracking and listening back before I fin...

It seems like a laptop would be fine for mobile recording. You don't have the live-or-die aspect of a live recording, and a little downtime probably isn't a big deal.

I'm in the same boat, but working on a Nuendo/Reaper rig. When I'm putting together my mobile rig, the last thing I'm thinking about is outboard gear. They take up a lot of space are usually the "least necessary" thing when tracking with minimal gear. I have a Sytek, which is a great value, and I th...

If you can't tell the difference between a 388 and a 1" machine, you won't notice any improvements using a nicer pre with the 388.

Another idea might be to invest in room treatment and better monitors.

What's your goal? More tracks?
Why not record on the 388 and bounce to the Teac?

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Personally, I don't think 388s are worth nearly that much. Just a few years ago, you could buy them for $300-400. For $900 you could get a 1/2" 8 track and mixer which is a big improvement in quality. And as you might've noticed on TOMB recently,...

I don't recall the bass on that exact tune, but if I had to guess, it's Carol Kaye playing with the wrecking crew. p-bass with flatwounds, played with a pick, into a fender super reverb. more info here: http://www.carolkaye.com/www/library/faq.htm

notice how she says no EQ and no compression!

I'm not a Mac guy, but you could send a WOL over the web using a smartphone or tablet: http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/woli.aspx or if you can get into the BIOS, you can set the computer to auto power on at a specific day/time, often on a weekly schedule. I know you can do this on PCs but I'm not...

If it sounds good in mono, there's a better chance it will sound better in stereo.
