Re: Mid-quality compressors vs Logic's ?
I still have a Symetrix 501, mostly using it on bass when tracking. Once I’m in the box Logic compressors seem fine for additional compression.

Re: Favorite use for Tape Op ribbon
I had a pair, but they’re gone now. One got stolen when my house got broken into, I guess it was the biggest and most impressive looking mic I had. I eventually sold the other one, I have better ribbons now. Last week I recorded a drum kit with a Stager SR-2n, single mic, to a track of 4-track casse...

Re: Acoustic Panels (DIY? Cheap?)
Our dog takes a nap beside the drum kit when my wife is playing. Dog seems unconcerned about guitar playing.
My last dog hated accordions. I don’t play enough accordion to know how our dog feels about it. I play badly.

Re: how often are you using non cardioid patterns?
My basement room is 10-11’ wide by 18-20’ deep, and I use figure 8 often pointed down the long direction of the room. For my voice I gain also from more proximity effect. This room is pretty dead, so I can also do Omni if it’s very close to an amp or instrument. Useful to have the options, though ca...

What's cool about it is no matter where the volume knob is, if I hit the button it goes to 62-65 dB.

Re: How loud do you listen?
Do you use a sine wave to set your SPL or program material? I did this pretty casually, with the meter in listening position while playing back music. The radio shack meter has a knob to switch between ranges, then you watch a VU meter. So if it’s in the 70 dB range and the meter is flipping around...

How loud do you listen?
I dug up my Radio Shack SPL meter.
I wanted to see how loud my monitors were, just out of curiosity.
For me, about 75 dB seems comfortable. 85 sounds loud and I probably don’t go much beyond that, and not for long.
I’m trying to remember to check balances at 60-65 occasionally.

Re: Overdrive pedals educate me
Everyone’s needs and tastes are so varied but I just picked up a Catalinbread Formula 55 that is exactly what I needed. I just bought a Swart amp and sold a tweed princeton clone which had lovely tone. The Swart was not QUITE tweed enough for me, though it's in the same neighborhood. So now there's...

Re: Is anyone not using Valhalla Supermassive? (yet)
I downloaded it but haven’t used it yet. I’m in a bit of a lull, just did a little project on 4-track cassette mixed analog with spring reverb, and haven’t started anything since. I bought but have not even downloaded or installed the cheap Bricasti emulation. I have eventide black hole for crazy hu...

Re: How many guitar amps?
Got a Swart Antares, a big amp (22 watts) with great tone. Been playing it obsessively for a couple days. Sounds very, very good. Tweed Princeton is on it way to NJ, Princeton Reverb is still for sale and will probably cover the rest of the cost of the new amp. So my four flavors are: Fender clean -...
