Re: can anyone suggest some consoles for me to look for?
You can find some good deals on Trident Sidecars. Say 8-12 channels. You'll have to look, but they are there. It's gonna be tough to find something with real good pre's and eq's for that price though. Maybe Soundcraft stuff. I've used a the Ghost before. Not too bad. I just spent the better part of ...

Gil Norton Rules.
Does anyone know if Tape Op has ever done an interview with him? Just listening to the new Jimmy Eat World record after forcing myself to buy it. I thought Clarity was their milestone. Gil took them to another place. Great sounding record as well as everything else he's done.

Re: Mic-Pre's for Protools
I bought some Telefunken V672 pre's in the raw from a guy in Germany for $25.00 a piece. This was before anyone was really on the trail looking for these things. You can buy them right out of board and send them off to get rack mounted. I'm know genious when it comes to reading schematics so I opted...

Setting Levels for Analoque board/Pro Tools?
Just wondering how to set levels for Pro Tools from the board using the Tone Generator from the board. I've never done this before. I've heard of setting up the VU's on the board to hit Hotter so that the board works harder. I've got an Amek with pre-amp chips. I don't know whether that should still...

Re: What can we do to improve the music scene?
This post got me to think about the evolution of this whole music thing. I started out with big goals in mind about what I wanted to accomplish in music. Shooting for the stars while trying to keep my Punk Rock Ethic. I'm not even sure it was a concious thing. I just always loved playing, recording,...

Re: Using Wood for Control Room and Live Room?
Thanks for the relplies. I will be using it for the floor, walls and ceiling in the Live room. And for the floor, partial wall, and partial ceiling in the Control Room. Not treating the walls and ceiling sounds like a good idea to me.
Thanks again,

Using Wood for Control Room and Live Room?
I got my hands on 1200 sqft of old tongue and groove flooring that I ripped out of a run down grain mill (free!!!!!!!!). I stripped the paint and it's absolutely beautifull. My question is about staining and treating the wood. Does applying Polyurethane to the wood take away from any accoustic quali...

Re: Figure-8-in-Guitar Amp Phase Question
Is the Figure 8 the pattern your only option on the mic? If it is I'd still mic it from the front.

Re: Figure-8-in-Guitar Amp Phase Question
Phasing shouldn't be a problem with one mic. The 2 speakers working together wouldn't cause any phasing unless they're wired out of phase. Why mic the amp from the inside for a live show? Will you be micing it from the front too? Just wondering. I prefer micing with ribbons and condensors live or re...

Re: Earthworks TC 30K for drums
I've used the TC 30 on kickdrums. They sound really cool. Really punchy. Those mics are one of the best investments I've ever made. I've used them as overheads also. Never as anything else thouch. Again they sound great.

Re: Syncing Budget Live Recoding
Sounds to me like with only 2 Pro Tools inputs your really going to be limited. Trying to record a click and then later syncing it up would really be more a pain than just simply mixing it on the fly down to 2 tracks. I'd use a blend of the Sub Mix's, and Audiance mics and mix those down to the 2 in...

Re: Re-recording a great (or not so great) album
I agree whole heartedly on the last Foo Fighters record. The drums were complete rubbish. And that's after the whole record was rerecording from top to bottom.... Oh yeah and Metallica died after '86. I personally would like to redo Samiam-Billy Catherine Wheel-Ferment Any early Misfits stuff Bad Br...

Re: Recording contracts we all need!!
Funny how "Corporate" folks assume that real artists, producers, engineers ...etc, couldn't possibly be happy in the real world. By "Real World" I mean as far away from them as possible.
