Bump. Can it be somehow that its nature is not that good at high RMS sources and is quite limited to what it sounds really good at at "normal" levels? Regards

No no, the guitar is heavily distorted but on top of it the 12a7y adds crackling noise. Regards

It displays around 20dBFS RMS. I find it strange that it is clipping so early. None of my other pre amps (Studio Projects 828 & The Brick) are clippingat all. Regards

Thanks for the advice, ipressrecord, but I do record quite moderate levels but I can lower it some. The mp3 sample I gave you guys peaked at -8.3dBFS. Maybe I can go down to the levels you suggested. Regards

Thanks for the replies!

I record with an SM57 and the amp is not loud at all. Bed room level. I have tried an 20dB pad but then the signal becomes quite/unusable low.

eh 12ay7 is clipping/distorting!

Quite some people have mentioned it in many threads, but I haven't found a single solution. I have tried other equal tubes (JJ's) but that doesn't solve anything. I use balanced all the way. I don't need alot of input gain on the EH for it to clip/distort and mess up the sound. What can be done to m...

The Shape Of Punk To Come really is a master-piece and thier old songs remind me of when I was younger and Hardcore and Skate Punk was getting really popular here (Satanic Surfers, Millencolin, No Fun At All, Raised Fist, 59 Times The Pain etc). Don't forget this one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Several comps per track (DAW)?

Many people compress lightly when tracking to computer/tape and then they also compress when mixing. I have no outboard compressors so everything I record goes through my preamps and straight into the computer and therefore has alot of dynamics. Is it common to use several compressors on each channe...

I think it sounds really good. If I heard it on the radio or at someones place I would believe it were a pro engineer that recorded it.

Smitty! Yeah the kick drum were an 18" tuned quite high so it resonated alot. I usually like quite clicky kicks (not too much though) but I really found this whompy sound to be interesting. It was a fun difference to record a non-clicky one this time around. Thank you for your comments! Now everyone...

X Point Enemy - Riddle For Pigs (Rock/Punk)

mp3 - Unavailable Tracking photo - Unavailable I would like to hear your thoughts and comments on quality of the sound, the mix and the hobby mastering I just did for a band from a town next to mine that I recorded in a small basement. The equipment I used was a MOTU 828MKII, Studio Projects 828 pre...

Thank you ipressrecord for taking the time to answer my questions. Your comment about the difference being like lifting a wet towel off of it made me really hungry for something better than the stock 828mkII. I will stick around and see if some more people gives the same opinion about it! Best Regar...

Upgrade from MOTU 828mkII. Suggestions?

I have a MOTU 828mkII and it has served me well for a while. But now I feel that the sonic/audio quality is not enough. I use The Brick and SP 828 preamps and do you think an RME Fireface 800 will improve my sound? Will a RME Fireface 800 or other better(?) units improve the tightness, punchiness an...
