Re: Studio Fatigue. Where do you feel it first?
Plus the other thing is if you're working PC's in the day job, coming home to the hobby of recording probably seems less inviting if you have to start with the screen all over again. That's why I'm thinking of either staying with cassette/1/4" for a bit longer and then I dunno, getting a wotsit. Di...

Re: Pictures and words and sounds of recording sessions
very cool, can't listen right now caus I am at work unfortunately but everything looks like it went pretty well for you. It is always cool to document caus you can always go back through your previous work and find out how far you have progressed and which directions you have gone in..etc. ya know.

Re: Moving air in the Home Studio
I believe if I recall that there was a study once that said it takes something like 36 ft. for a sound wave to properly mature and expand to its potential before it decays and fades out and resonates from different textures in the room if you mic straight in front of the source. What changes in a s...

Re: Moving air in the Home Studio
the way the acoustics work with guitar cabs or any live audio like that for example is the closer you get to the source (i.e. guitar cab in this case) the less ambience from the room..etc.. that you are going to get and the less time that the sound waves actually have to develop and mature to their ...

Re: Studio Fatigue. Where do you feel it first?
yep, eye strain, wrist strain, and ear strain are some of the most common working on a DAW now days. Sometimes its a good thing to get out of the studio for a while when you're at that point and take a walk, take a break, or just do something else to give your senses time to recoup. Your mixes will ...

Re: Building A Vocal Booth - With Photo's (Need Your Advice)
You'll get shitloads of help over here: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/index.php yep, good call... I was going to reccomend John's boards over there. Also, one alternative would be a company called clearsonic which is at clearsonic.com. For about a grand you can get a portable vocal booth to fit...

got the nov/dec issue, but haven't been aware of anything new yet. I think on the main page of tapeop.com they post the most recent issue cover. It does seem like a while since they put one out though for some reason.

Re: songwriting is hard
yep, anytime I have started out with a "band" project in the past I always go into it just as a jam session at first to see how things go and mesh styles..etc.. whether its for an audition or you are the person forming the band..etc. Once you find something that everyone digs and come to common grou...

Re: songwriting is hard
like the previous posts mention, just let the material come as it comes to you. If you are starting a band, usually its a good routine to see what all of your influences are..etc.. and you guys might come across a few covers that you all know..etc.. and be able to derive idea's off of that at very w...

Re: I need some new music to listen to...
I have a lot of cool indie bands on my site under my links section if you are bored and want some cool bands to check out. :) Lately I have been digging Fader Band, Kristy Hanson, supermodel-T, and a lot of other indie ones in and out of rotation in the cd player. If you want also, one of my bands A...

Re: YOU'RE the engineer, what would you do?
Piccolo snare toss for distance. Proceed from there. Seriously: fuck a piccolo. Replace that with something at least five inches deep and you could probably get away with one mic, drummer depending. dude, that is pretty funny with the piccolo snare toss idea. I think there should be a competi...

Re: double mics on podiums - a la bush press conference - ho
I was thinking one for recording and one for the PA or whatever amplification was in the room, but dynomic's answer makes more sense. I don't know why there'd be a need to record the President in stereo -- it might reveal that his voice is actually coming from the direction of Cheney's throat. Ever...
