Re: I'm officially tired of squashed drums and distorted voc

Speaking of listening to music on one's own time, I am forced to listen to a lot of slick, awful crap at my job, much of which has HUGE drums. I think that has a pretty big influence on my taste in drum sounds. (marqueemoon, from the MP3 section) this was a more revealing quote to me... just saying ...

Re: I'm officially tired of squashed drums and distorted voc

i dunno.. if we're talking broken social scene or john vanderslice type compressed drums, i happen to really like that sound... again in moderation. but the things they do with it is far more interesting than typical things out there that just kind of press the squash and distort button in protools...

Re: help - beginning recording

4-tracks are very simple to operate.. if you ARE going to borrow one ask your generous friend to show you how it works. after that, take it home and spend the weekend with it..

you WILL figure it out.

Re: help - beginning recording

For vocals you'll want some kind of windscreen. bend a wire clothes hanger into a circle and stretch a pair of pantyhose over it... for 150.00 you will have to be patient until a deal on a used 57 and 4-track pops up... while you're being patient.. you may as well save your money too. that way you ...

Re: Putting SNARE up the middle...a consideration

How about stereo snare? That'll get it out of the way. I mean, we're talking totally artificial here, but two snare signals, acheived in any manner, panned hard left and right. actually, an old band i was in did this on one song. it was a rock song with a slight bluegrass feel and the verses were r...

Re: video game music.

Right now the Rancid Yak Butter Tea Party and I are recording 30 Mega Man classics from MM's 12345 and 6. It's a pain in the ass to try and transcribe what some Japanese dude did in MIDI, but it's well worth it.
whoa! hey.. this is paul from the franchise... scott? that you?

Re: Listening party(a point of reference)

i've been listening to a lot of kiss lately due to this mix tape someone made me and i'm really loving it! i guess kiss founded a lot of rock cliches but their approach to recording their songs is sometimes bizzarro.. sorta like a teenage steely dan!
