Re: Am I really this dumb? I think I fried my board!
[Yeah, then I think i did something bad to the board. I have nothing connected to the board at all except AC power and as soon as I plug the headphones in, I get the horrid buzzing/humming tone. I thought it was a ground loop issue too, unti I plugged the phones straight into the board -- this tone...

Re: Wiring a monitor as a kick mic.
Would you not be able to consider the woofer, like a capsule to be a balanced source?cetanorak wrote:If you use shielded wire, you solder the shield with the (-) cable lead to the (-) terminal on the speaker.

Wiring a monitor as a kick mic.
So I have a couple of questions about this. Seems like lots of people are doing it. I tried it myself and was overcome, with the horrific noise levels. I tried running unshielded twisted pair to the +ve and -ve terminals on the monitor, then connected it to the hot and cold on one of my mic channels...

Like the guy said above, if you want a nice tubey old school orange sound, go look at MatAmp, Mat Mathias did the original Orange amps, and the company are still turning out awesome sounding products. http://www.matamp.co.uk and http://www.matamp.com , http://blackamps.com/ , http://greenamps.com/ ....

Re: DIY bass cab
Peavey Black Widows are pretty nice 15" drivers, last forever, as usual one mans opinion, I have a Peavery 2x15, and though their cab is a bit iffy after all this time the drivers are great. Couple of links for you Rog Mogales Speaker Plans http://speakerplans.com/ Bills Best Bass Cab (not a 1x15 bu...

Re: XLR -> 3.5mm cable question (Grounding a pair)
I think a) is correct. Really what you want in most cases is pin 2 to the 3.5mm positive, and pins 1 and 3 to the ground. I just wondered if there was any noise rejection benefit to having one of the pair still carrying a ground signal, or whether it would actually cause more pickup. If I use bothe...

Re: tube amp question
thanks for the help guys. i think i'll cough up the cash and have someone else do it. i don't really have the time or "real" knowledge to pull this off. and i'd rather not shock the shit out of myself :) Ask around to find a good tech, a lot of so called techs have no clue either. Ask your tube amp...

Re: tube amp question
I have a 15 watt class "a" tube amp and the preamp tubes are micro-phonic. i know it's not the tubes because i just bought them. is the micro-phonicism(is this a word?) due to wore out caps? i'm going to order some new caps but i just needed a expert opinion before i actually start funking with thi...

XLR -> 3.5mm cable question (Grounding a pair)
For my own amusement more than anything, I'm trying to link something into my mixer that only has 3.5mm inputs / outputs, I plan to butcher some mic cables to achieve this, with that in mind. I know that when going from a balance to an unbalanced source, you link the -ve and shield at the balanced e...

The latest album has an accompanying DVD of them in the studio, I swear there was an SVT and a fliptop in there.

Re: objects thats make strange sounds for music concrete
I spend hours feeding my two old digital reverbs into each other, just bringing the faders up and down, changing the delay time to warp the sound currently in the buffer, and then feed it through my newer digitial DSP and morph it some more. No real instruments are used/harmed in this  It make...

Re: Removing a Tube Amp from my old wurlitzer?
Find a friend with an o'scope and do some measurements, before plugging something you value into it. Or if you have one use your own o'scope. Also check out Hammond Schematics here http://www.captain-foldback.com/Hammond_sub/hammond_schematics.htm for more info. Damn you said Wurlitzer, my bad, err ...

Re: New TapeOp issue has arrived. WooHoo!
Any Chris Garges reviews? I love that guys equipment reviews. I have a converted PlaySkool singalong, with one input the original microphone, and one a 1/4" jack for my bass or a guitar. I need to work on putting a boost on the instrument channel, probably the same chip as used in those Smokey Amps.
