I recently had a great experience with a fellow TapeOp'r offering a free test mix. I had been struggling with a guitar-heavy song, and so I FedEx'd a DVD of the tracks to take him up on it. The mix I got back was amazing, so I paid him for the finished copy. Wasn't money I had planned on spending, b...

We all know an ME isn't going to save your stuff, but the ME can sometimes creatively be going in an entirely different direction, boosting the wrong things and adding no polish. I read time and time again where people are pushing others away from self-mastering towards an ME. It's not always going ...

Building your own is fun. The most unexpected benefit of this one is that I no longer watch the mix. I listen (which... may still not help).

I used a Beta 58. Sound guys hated it, because it's so bright, but it's a great mic for the right style. Tonight had a client that was shrieking and screaming at the top of his lungs.....tried the AT3035 with -10dB pad and then a -20 dB pad on the Avalon M5...no good still clipping out....tried a SM...

J. Hall can bring on the jams. Thanks for your excellent work, man. You really opened it up and brought on the magic. Cheesy, but true. Great job.

I've been thinking about this idea for a couple years. I think it would be a good idea to have a passive mixer; just like inserts, pots/faders and both individual outs and a buss. I wonder how effective it would be to buy some quality fader pots and just make something like that. Seems like it woul...

That's how I use an Onyx 1620 (modded by Front End Audio), although I let the 2Bus LT do the summing. I've never run through the pres on the board though, so I have no comparison between the two routes.

behringer? i don't do behringer. actually i had a bad experience with a certain behringer compressor. plus, if i got something behringer i think i would never survive the endless flaming from all of creotia. I think if you actually tried the ADA8000, you'd be willing to put up with the flaming. Not...

Nevermind - I misunderstood what James was talking about. The veneered ply is great too. Go with 7-9 ply from your lumber yard. Doesn't flex with humidity changes either. Sand it lightly with 320 and you'll get a good glossy surface. One slip on the edges though, you will have some holes.

Re: Demo Request / Evidence that the music industry rips us

On a different subject Letterbox Records is requesting demos with a view to increase the Letterbox roster still further. The address to send demos can be found at: Jesus, dude, you're on the interweb - if you can't find it yourself, then... oh well, nevermind. Also, I don't understand - two "fantas...
