Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...
I'm the new leader of this magazine/forum. It's time for Larry to Al, did you forget that I'm a moderator here? You're not. Enjoy. -LC step down, and you guys need to smooch my bottom instead. Larry's a rockstar, now. Writing articles about Eric Valentine, I didn't write that. JJ did. going to the P...

P.S., I'd rather listen to Steely Dan, or Eddie Kramer, or even fucking Neil Sedaka than most of your crap, although I have heard a few of you idiots produce some shit that was okay. Later.

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...
Yeah -- repaying you for your little smooching. Seriously -- I've read this forum for a while, and you guys are a bunch of infantile little crybabies. Some of you constantly poke fun at others, but when it comes to taking it yourselves, you act like a bunch of little pussies. Later -- you guys aren'...

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...
Say what you want, but I've felt an increasing need to look elsewhere outside of this magazine and forum for recording information and for inspiration about recording. To this magazine's credit, the competition is worse. Having said that, more and more this magazine and forum is reading like a trade...

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...
I'm not trying to attack anyone -- I personally don't give a shit. I'm just a reader of a magazine. If you start writing more shit about Eric Valentine and review more three thousand dollar mics -- good for you, I just won't read your magazine. The only reason I read this magazine is it spoke to me,...

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...
I wasn't referring to your studio. Admittedly, I know nothing about your studio and I'm not familiar with anyone who records there. The prices on some gear should be related to what the gear is. Like the Daking preamps and Mackie mixer in the last issue are actually relatively affordable for what th...

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...
I guess it's just a difference of opinion. I don't mind the gear reviews so much -- I just find the focus in this magazine is changing more from people who record music that they love regardless of the money, and tend to use cheap gear because the market simply doesn't support good music -- to peopl...

Sure -- no problem. He's actually one of the few people I read about in this magazine that I've personally met (actually, he was too cool to even look at me, even though he came into the studio while I was paying -- this is before he was a big rockstar). Al, my life is forever changed now that I hav...

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...
Eric Valentine is an asshole. Prices of gear reviewed in issue #45: $2999 $1999 $2750 $96 $1995 $2895 $2995 $3000 $1279 $449 $179 $3000 $200 $200 $27 $499 $899 $1000 $63 $100 $3500 We work our hardest to try and cover as much variety of gear as possible. One thing we will not do is tell you ow great...

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...
I find that that fewer and fewer of the articles are about knuckleheads like me who use Mackie's in their converted bedrooms (not out of choice), and more about guys like Eric Valentine who makes 10 grand a song. It seems like some of the reviewers are keeping more of the high-end units they review ...

Re: If you have a console, are you dumping it for digital? &
If I had a SSL, or a Neve, or whatever, it might be different. But mixing with Cubase SX is just way, way less problematic than trying to do something similar with a Mackie 1604 (which I only use for monitoring with everything set at unity gain). I can save multiple revisions in different stages wit...

Re: Monitoring at -10 or +4?
I have a 1604 (bought it in '97 brand new). Maybe I'll wind up using that ebtech thing, or shelling out a bunch of cash for that big knob -- because I'd like to be able to hook up multiple stereos in different rooms at different levels at the same time, and the Mackie just wasn't designed to do that...
