+1 on the e602, that mic rules the kick drum. I also really love the Heil PR40, I feel like it has tight low end and the kind of midrange that I'm always trying to EQ other mics to have anyway. I also love it on bass, rhodes, and pedal steel as well. But neither of those mics have the RE20 beat in t...

For the longest time I refused to believe that cable made a significant difference in sound, or that it was even a significant part of the signal chain. That sounds so unbelievably stupid to me. But recently a friend of mine became a dealer of Analysis Plus cable and had me do a taste test and I was...

I'm a fan of the MoreMe headphones, here's why: Pro: -They're INSANELY cheap (5 pair for $120 from Mercenary), which means I honestly don't give two shits how people treat them, which provides more peace of mind than I can express. -They seem to be rugged as well, since mine have been stepped on and...

I've been borrowing a KSM44 for a few weeks now and while I've always thought of that mic as rather boring, I've been really impressed with it now that I've gotten to use more often. It works well on a variety of sources and while it's never made me pee myself with awesomeness, I think it's a really...

I would say that the Distressor is the most flexible tracking compressor that I personally have ever used. Now keep in mind, I'm a home studio guy and my experiences with nice gear have been limited to the handful of times I've worked at professional studios, but I feel like I've used a lot of diffe...

Just wanted to add that while I've never heard the 7802, I have the 7720 and really love it, it's great across a mix and I'm finding it's a very versatile tracking compressor as well. Seems like this company makes pretty damn cool stuff.

I use the cinder block stack and a friend of mine turned me onto an insanely cheap and insanely effective gizmo for de-coupling: go to any pet store and pick up the glass beads (designed for use in fish tanks) that are round on one side and flat on the other. They are seriously like 20 cents a piec...

I REALLY like the Heil PR40 on both kick drum and bass amps (and pedal steel, and rhodes... I love this mic.). In both applications it always feels tight, never flubby. Sometimes on kick i end up bumping it up around 80Hz or something if the song calls for it, but the mids and top always sound great...

It's a completely different computer, but if I wasn't sure if I just moved them over to my plugins folder on the new computer if they would work. You've given me hope, I'll just give it a shot and post my results. Thanks dudes.

How can I get my Dynamics II plugs in 7.4??

Ok folks, this is embarrassing. I have been on a 001 for years and just now switched to a 002 (mainly for the BLA mods). For the most part, I'm very happy. One thing that's really bumming me out, however, is that I had gotten really comfortable with the compressor and limiter that were part of the D...

how do you patch in broadcast gear??

Hey folks, I just picked up an old Urei 535 EQ and was wondering how to incorporate it into my patch bay. This is what the back looks like: http://users.snip.net/~mrbibbs/gearpix/UREI537_Back_4038.jpg from left to right the terminals read: +/- COM GRND COM +/- How should I patch this up? I'm assumin...

I have a pair of Mean 90s and love em. They're not QUITE in the same league as the Lindy Fralin p-90s I used to have, but they sound awesome and you can't beat the price. I really want to try out some of their filtertron copies, they look cool as hell.

One of the best engineers I know spends at least an hour per song getting a perfect headphone mix before cutting any vocals. I always get impatient but singers just love working with this guy because the mixes are actually fun to sing to. Smart dude.
