+1 on the U195, although I use it with the "fat" switch engaged. Good God I love that mic. Still looking for a source on which it sucks. Also +1 on the Shinybox, it totally rules in front of a kick. Definitely with a pop screen in front of it or angled, although any more than a few degrees starts to...

I just did a google image search and it looks like it was a Mix Wizard, maybe like a 16:4:2? Definitely blue, definitely red faders on the busses. Newer, maybe 5 years old.

Now the old Allen & Heath System 8 boards on the other hand...

I'm gonna go ahead and say +1,000,000 on room treatment. I've been doing the basement thing for years now and there was one point where I though I would never be able to make my space sound good, everything had this weird buildup of 400-600 Hz that I constantly had to carve out and my mixes did not ...

I had the opportunity just last month to borrow an Allen & Heath from a friend and I was really unhappy with it for tracking. I found the preamps to be very thin and fizzy and ended up switching preamps before I really had a chance to use the EQ. Now here's the disclaimer: The friend from whom I bor...

Ok, so first the annoying questions: What kind of kit and what size is the drum? Now, with that out of the way, here's what I would probably say regardless of your answers: Remo Powerstroke III I love that head, but I always put them on my old ludwig vistalite kit, which are kinda unique-sounding ki...

It totally depends on how much you value originality. If you want your amp to be original, then totally re-cone it. If it were me, I would say this is a perfect opportunity to find a replacement speaker that is currently in production, so you can know exactly what speaker to buy in the future AND no...

Oh man, you guys are great! I've been meaning to pick a sansamp for years, but this seals the deal: I need one. +1 on the sparkledrive, good god damn I love that pedal. So nice to have a blend control on stuff like vocals and synths. Thanks so much for the input, I'll definitely check some of those ...

Favorite distortion pedal as outboard?

Hey folks, I've been breaking out of the box and using a lot more outboard gear while mixing than I had been previously and just loving it. In that spirit, I got one of them fancy reamp boxes and am starting to use the myriad stompboxes that have piled up over the years as outboard effects. Let me a...

I have a Super that I absolutely love to death, but I would say for recording you might be better suited by a bassman head with a couple different cabs, maybe an open-back 4x10 and a closed 1x12. That would give you some nice options. And the bassmans are pretty easy to mod to blackface specs. Plus ...

Jim Eno contact info

I don't know if this is the right part of the board to be asking this, but I'm interested in contacting Jim Eno about a mixing project and I can't find a website or management or any way of getting in touch with him. I was wondering in specific how i should go about contacting Jim and also in genera...

I have one of the RED caps. I would agree with Chris in that I don't really reach for it all that often, but there are a couple things it really kicks ass on, like floor toms and electric guitars. I would imagine a pair would be pretty useful, that's a cool deal they're running.

I really love my 012s. They've really made me happy on toms, acoustic guitar, overheads, snare, and as a guitar room mic. YMMV, but I love those mics to death.

I've tried the 4033s as overheads and didn't really like em. I found them to be overly dark and rather difficult to mix.

That's my room and my personal taste though, so if you liked it as a mono overhead then maybe it's totally your thing.
