I've been continuing to fool around with my PreSonus Blue Max as a stereo bus compressor, and I find that I don't hear much in the way of compression artifacts or signature compared to my non-processed mix, even at about 5-7dB compression. I guess that is a good thing.

The Canary has vetoed Temptation and Jockey as being too well-trodden already, and I see her point. We are considering alternatives and I will let you know ASAP!

MixOff.org

Is there any official connection or relationship between MixOff.org and TOMB, or is it merely choice of a similar font for their logo (and similar area of interest) that gives me that impression?

pardon me, but some business questions

Thanks mjau! So that I may describe the scenario completely to the canary can you fill me in some details as follows: I understand that there have been previous TOMB compilations. Do CDs actually get pressed, or is it a "files only" distribution? Is this distributed only to participants or to the ge...

I work with a singer who does great versions of Temptation and Jockey Full of Bourbon. I've been trying to convince her to do a covers record anyway, so maybe we can start with one of those.

So if she's willing I'm in. I will check it out with her.

Brilliant!! Is there a kit available, or did you have to source all your parts individually? I don't have a problem putting together a kit, but if I had to source all the individual parts myself and fabricate my own enclosure that would probably be too daunting (and time-consuming).

in response to G.U.E. - however there is a category of information that is present in both L+R channels equally, which can be considered a separate category from information that differs between the L+R channels. Admittedly this is a case of "fuzzy" lines and gradation between the two.

I for one am a) EQ-ing the KIK and BASS individually and b) using the uncompressed sound in the mix, and bringing up the compressor output on another fader. and balancing the two to taste.

Leigh, thank you for validating my analysis!

I am trying to create a matrix in PT to output a true mid-only signal, but so far my success is restricted to the theoretical realm. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. But stubbornness is my primary asset, so I'll keep trying.

When I started this thread I was concerned with processed "MID-SIDE" examples, not true Mid-Side recording with a center mic and a figure-8 side mic. Part of my question remains unanswered - Do these processors, such as the DrMS plug-in and the Avenson Mid-Side box, go through extra "steps" to remov...

If you take a coincident-diaphragm LR stereo pair of cardioid microphones and sum them to mono, you end up with the same signal you'd get with a single cardioid microphone pointed straight - so that's how Mid = L + R works. Not exactly, wouldn't the combined coincident pair give you a wider pickup ...
