I love my Sytek and don't consider it a mid preamp at all. It's pretty close up there with the big boys IMO. In fact, although it's not quite as perectly transparent as the very best, it fits extremely well for my mics and my voice. Still I wouldn't recommend you get another four channels. I'd recom...

As for how to compare mics, I respectfully disagree with putting the mics in the same exact place because every mic has it's own sweet spot. However, I do understand the point of it and unless someone has a reason to go all out and find how each mic fairs in it's own optimal placement, I guess it's ...

Again Michael, very ninformative. I had two B Stock Baby Bottles for testing. Everything was the same excpet for the openings on the grill and the blast protection. One had much wider oepnings and little protection, the other, closest to what they are using for the A stcok mics were tighter and more...

Re: Justifying lots of money going into one thing.
You dissapoint me Nicky. Here we are sharing all of this good advice and all you can do is drink a beer while reminiscing about the one that got away (which what you're gonna do). All the while you go a buy a computer (I know that's what you're gonna do) that will be obsolete in a couple of days. Oh...

Re: how do i get that effect...
Wet reverb = lots of reverb. Basically, wet always refers to the effect and dry to the instrument or sound. Dry = no effect/reverb I think the effect you're talking about is that the volume of the reverb was high but the direct sound (the drums) was low, basically approximating what would occur in n...

Re: Pacific Pro Audio Ribbon Group Buy Instructions
Tommypiper mentioned: I've read somewhere recently that the sound of a mic is due mostly to the shape of its grill. This is more important than the diaphram, capsule, electronics, or transformer in shaping the sound of a microphone, apparently. So, according that that theory, this mic: http://member...

Re: Justifying lots of money going into one thing.
Well, there are different lines for different situations, but regarding your comments on the amp vs the computer - the amp is a much better purchase. The Computer [/u] In one year it won't be worth anywhere near what you paid, especially if you buy one now, cause the 64 bit processors are gonna be i...

Re: Pacific Pro Audio Ribbon Group Buy Instructions
Micheal Jolly..... thank you for the awesome post!!!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to explain your thoughts and findings. In any case, I'll be happy with which ever mics we get. After that, we need to get some $200 channels of Neve and API cloned preamps! :D All in say AYE!!! (thanks for...

Re: Pacific Pro Audio Ribbon Group Buy Instructions
Okay, I've taken a little bit of time to think about this some more and here's my thoughts: There are some high end mics with tapered grills, many more with cylindrical. Some of the most expensive mics these days are cylindrical. Some are totally different, such as lollipop mics. My point? There's n...

Michael Jolly stated: This request may have gotten lost in the middle of thousands of posts but I strongly urge you to order the HRM-2 style head grille if possible and not the simpler cylindrical HRM-4 style. The 3 dimensional taper of the HRM-2 grille will reduce internal standing waves to provide...

Actually, I think Harvey single handedly gave credibility to the Marshall line, not to mention the RNC, Behringer ECM8000, etc.

Re: Pacific Pro Audio Ribbon Group Buy Instructions
You're not crazy, at least not for ordering the mics. I hope you have the preamps to power the mics though. I think you need around 75 db of gain. My Syteks have 70 db and they either have to run all of the way up or (my preference) is to daisy chain two channels. As for the name: How about the GoCa...
