I just did this on Saturday. New "Boy Band" on "big" label. We've been working all night, its now 9am and the "hook" still isn't as sweet as the demo singers. Having both Pro Tools sessions at my finger tips, the producer asks me to import demo singers vocals, and align the new vocals to the old one...

T Pain has pretty much mastered singing a 1/2 step off to get autotune to pull him hard for that sound. WTF. so, he sings a semitone off? i hope you meant 1/100 of a semitone. Yeah, something to that effect. It's not a 1/2 step, its actually just a little flat, but the point is that he maintains it...

^^ Those are good examples. Chris Brown and T Pain both sing through Autotune, committing it to the take. Input is an aux track, autotune engaged, printing it to the audio track. To be fair, though. They both use it as an effect to their sound. Chris has the settings memorized, and T Pain has pretty...

11....... Cuz it's 1 louder! Seriously, though. I'm fairly moderate w/ my listening levels. I've used the Realistic SPL meter and cal'ed to 85db, but personally don't consistently monitor at that volume. That is, when I have the choice. Some of my clients like the console all the way up for a good p...

Sweet
Thanks, these old units can be very finicky. Our tech shop is littered w/ Frankensteined units that have been parted out to keep our "good" ones working.

Re: Anyone Know How To Get An AMS Delay Out Of Harmonizer Mo

Anyone know how to get an AMS delay out of Harmonizer Mode? Chris Garges Charlotte, NC Going off memory here: On the numeric keypad, press "B" you should now see the "H" flashing on the screen with a number next to it. Type "0", then press "#" (that's the "enter" button in AMS land) you should be g...

More tips here. http://www.drumdrops.com/index.jsp?p=PAGE-DUBTIPS Lay down 8 tracks (or submix down to 8 subs). Patch sends for a long verb, a short verb, at least one delay, and an extreme chorus or flange and return them all on mixer channels instead of returns so you can send one to another. I a...

Man...... reading this has reminded me of my big blunder and how I'm very lucky I wasn't canned! Years ago, I was an intern at a studio on my first day with Andy Johns in the house. He's quietly sitting outside having a smoke w/ a beer and I actually had the nerve to ask him about making Led Zepplin...

Live Auto-Tune? That is funny. I've forgotten the details, but it reminds me of this noted guitarist who copied this other player's record who was using either overdubs or delay - some studio trickery - and he imitated the effect with only his fingers because he didn't know it was an effect. That's...

Me too, sometimes. At least I can go to sleep tonight knowing that I won't have to compete with you for a gig.

Seriously, though. Who really cares. We're not trying to save lives.

I don't force my opinion on friends or clients either. I just won't auto-tune anyone, ever again. IMO- people who auto-tune client's vocals are ripping everyone off. I think your frustration comes from the idea that Pop Records might be considered "art". That's not to say that they can't be, but mo...
