a guy at sam ash in NYC told me about this stuff called "mu-metal" that supposedly insulates power cables from audio cables nicely. since then i haven't found any info on it.

Re: cable question
thanks for your help, guys! i actually have that van den hul stuff printed out by my soldering station.... it's how i learned to solder in the first place. it just seemed unclear to me the difference between the way you would solder a stereo cable versus a balanced cable. i have to admit, i still do...

cable question

multiple monitor pair question
i'm wondering if there is a such thing as an a/b box for monitor sets.... i would like to be able to have at least two sets of monitors hooked up to my stuff and be able to switch back and forth for reference.
does anyone know if this exists and if so, what it's called & who sells it?

Re: using the m-audio firewire 410 on a powerbook
actually, it can. when the mbox forst came out i bought it thinking it was going to be the answer to my problem. of course i would rather stick with pro tools! it's my weapon of choice through and through. but the mbox would crash while we were practicing. i think the fact that it is uses a usb conn...

Re: using the m-audio firewire 410 on a powerbook
since this is for a live situation only (i don't plan to record with this device at all), i just need the 8 outputs i have on the thing.... 4 stereo pairs. the issue is not with the unit itself. it WILL do what i am wanting it to do (it's a big part of their sales pitch for the thing). the question ...

using the m-audio firewire 410 on a powerbook
i just bought one of those m-audio firewire 410 mobile recording interface devices. i'm in one of those new-fangled laptop bands and we were looking for a way to have separate outs so we could separate the drums from the bass, etc. it sounds terrible going out from the little 1/8" stereo headphone j...
