With a good gate program you can do aloooot of things than would be almost impossable do to with editing away everything from the hits. well.. then, that brings up two questions. 1. what is a "good gate program"? I still haven't found a go...

Gate it, Compress (the shit out of) it, EQ it. Try adding a SLIGHT amount of TIGHT delay to beef it up if need be. Some times a little bit of reverb can help, especaly if you gate it... but then again that might not work for the kind of music your recording. I have heard tell that there is an old si...

MXL 2003 and XML 9000

Ok so I was wondering if any one has/had a MXL 2003 and what they thought about it? Everything I have read has been pretty good, and the price is pretty much right on for my budget. The other thing is I picked up a MXL 9000 and I have no idea where it came from. I can't find it online anywhere, it's...

don't forget to shut down everything you have running in the background. If your comp is online you may have spyware and other wonderfull piles of shit running hidden too. You mayhave to end the application tree on some of your background stuff. One of the biggest things I'd ask (as it already was a...

Well keep in mind that the only thing that kept Apple alive for this long was the I-pod and schools. And I'm under the impression that Intel is kinda feeling the heat from AMD these days so I'm kinda wondering how this Apple/Intel deal came to be? It looks kinda like it could be the beginning of the...

It could be that some how your maxing out your processer... but I'd think a G5 would be able to handle more than 5 tracks worth of FX (next time get an AMD :P). The other thing you should check is your master level in your mix, as you may need to turn it down a bit. Those should be the first things ...

As everyone has stated: a 6x6 would be pretty tight... and this is coming from a guy who's main booth is a 8x8. However there are some things you can still do to make it hapen I would think. Rather than mic stands, use clips on the toms and snare. You wont get as full as a sound due to the closeness...

You know, I've found the cheap-o ones add a little extra clarity to cymbals... but like everyone else it seems, I don't use mine much either.

p.s. I'm sure you know this, but the right compresser setting can make night into day. So if you have enough $$$ left over, get a good compresser plug-in for your DAW.

Ok heres what I would do in your case: Get your self a used Echo Layla24 off Ebay. They can be run by pcmcia for your laptop AND by a pci card for your desktop, so it can cover bolt your worlds and still keep you in the 24/96 zone. For mics I would recommend you check out the MXL 603 (about $100) an...
