Re: Channel Strip Plugins

I don't gain stage like that, but as I said before I like the Slate VBC and it allows you to push levels into the plugin but it doesn't actually change the level coming out of the plugin... There are others like United Plugins FrontDAW that you can do that, but it also has in/out levels that can cha...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

I think someone told me many years ago "oh, you should use playlists" and I was like "nah, I'm good. this works for me". But then I tried it and NEVER went back. I was an idiot. It saves so much time once you get the hang of it.

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

For Pro Tools playlists you don't have to cut and paste. you simply highlight an area and then click a little "up" arrow and it moves it to the main track for you. And yes, it works with grouped files (like a bunch of drum tracks) too. And as far as plugins, you can change the sorting/grouping. I ju...

Playlists have been around since like PT 6 I think?
It's true, "playlists" are just files, so pretty much every file is a "playlist" or at least Avid(or Digidesign) has been using that term forever I think

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

Playlists are great as well (but I think that came out with PT 10 or 11 maybe?). I use it when I'm doing drum tracks. I can do multiple takes (from the same starting point) and then I "expand alternates to new playlists" or something like that with the "match criteria" set to the starting point. the...

Re: Hotel Earth studio 1 build diary

Looks great. I can't tell from the picture as it looks like both joists are sitting on top of the wall plate. Is there some kind of isolation clip between them or something? I mean between the 2x10's and the top plate? I assume the 2x8's are for the interior/ceiling (inner leaf) so they can sit on t...

Re: The Pro Jr.

If you haven't had an EL84 amp before it's good to know that if the amp is getting used they wear out quicker than other tubes. As long as you put in a matched pair you don't have to bias them. It's a plug and play situation. Maybe that's the same issue Fender had with the Blues Jr. - they had the ...

Re: Pedal harmonizers that work?

oh yeah, I'd never use one in the studio - well wait, I did have a singer/songwriter that used one once. it was only for a few things and it sounded ok for what it was. but definitely not what I would have chosen to do... 8)

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

It's nice. I use freeze pretty much how you described. Sometimes I find that certain plugins are cpu hogs and if I have that on a track, I will just "freeze" that track so that it's not consuming cpu cycles (from the plugins) so that my Aux busses can pig out themselves. Another thing is that now th...

Re: Mixing with Hardware - Hybrid

I'm too lazy for mixing OTB. Or really, I'm just usually happy with what I can get ITB. I have OB hardware but most of that is for tracking and after that sometimes reamping (but I usually try plugins first). I only have one outboard EQ and it's actually really a preamp - a PM1000 channel - but I ha...

I'm with you. I would need to see it too - or feel it, and watch it, or even disassemble it. I just learn better that way (vs. books - too bad I figured that out after school lol).

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I did get the pack of RAB Audio ProJax 40 monitor isolators (8 to a pack). I ended up using only the base (the shortest option - < 1") and it seems to hold my Dynaudio BM6a mkii's just fine and again I notice there is no vibration transmitting through to the desk/racks they are sitting on anymore. T...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

all my runs are short so my patchbay is 1/4", FWIW, and the attenuators are in the patchbay I don't hear a whole lotta difference, as said so, on the side of those attenuators, it has where you stick the wires in (I'm calling the top, the part with the diagram and the screws to tighten the wires in...
