Tough. You can't expect them to pay more than originally agreed to. Period. At the same time, you can't work for free or for a reduced rate - which is what you're doing at this point. If the band is serious about putting their best foot forward, they need to face reality about the bad singer. Call i...

batch normalize thru the sequence editor as opposed to the soundbites window.
select all the regions you want to affect (in the sequence), Normalize should be in the plug-in list, or you could use Trim plug to boost +6 dB.

sampler formats

I have a pretty large library of samples for Kurzweil and Akai sampler formats. I would like to convert these to use in Reason and Logic Pro. Does anyone know of a good utility for this task? I'm not opposed to changing everything over to .WAV files either, but I would like for them to remain mapped...

What exactly is getting lost in the mix (snare, toms, kick)?

There are a host of factors that could cause the problem. The drummer might suck, but it could be the drum part itself, tuning of the kit, cymbal choice, mic placement, or the room.

Or it could be all of these and you're just screwed.

what kind of drum machine is it?

running through stomp boxes or amps will package the sound a little more, add some grit, etc.

probably not what you're looking for, but the 808 stuff on sarah mclachlan's fumbling towards ecstasy is amazing. pierre marchand did some great programming there.

The D to the M shuts down the D to the A

Yeah, once when I was in college. We had a guest producer come in who has done some pretty big deal stuff in hip hop. And I was asked to engineer for him. I was pretty pumped going into the session. Long story short. After he yelled at me for something that was his fault for the 10th time, I told hi...

nashville's really cool

The music scene is really great actually. There are a lot of great bands that come from there. And it's cool enough to have a lot of great indie bands come thru. Check out http://www.nashvillezine.com Studio competition is fierce. Everybody's grandmother has a Pro Tools rig, but once you get working...

whoring your business

does anyone else feel a bit like a phony bastard when introducing yourself to potential clients? for example, i'll be at a show and really like a band and start talking to them and we'll be having a good time over some PBR's, but then it's time to switch to business mode and i'm always afraid they'...
