Scully Electronics

As I mull over my future preamp direction, I have to wonder about the electronics from the 280's. Nice big UTC transformers. I've heard a few round about good things, but nothing very specific or in depth.
Any users out there have anything to say on the subject?

Anybody have Shadow Hills experience?

I think I read somewhere that they were showing their wares at TapeOpCon. Does anyone have anything to say about the Gama pre? Everything I have read is from another board and most of those opinions seem to dwell on how cool it looks. I would like to hear some opinions on how it sounds from around h...

The difference in the forces is a factor of 10 million. I checked my math twice. I think I caught all my mistakes. Let me know if you spot any.
Ha! How about I take your word for it.

Thanks, this puts my (pea sized) mind at ease.

I thought it was at least a semi-plausible question. I mean take a LDC with a diaphragm thickness of like 3- 6 or so microns, you would (I would) think that it's pretty susceptible to things like gravity over time. I know they have back plates -but isn't there a gap between the two surfaces? I guess...

Mic storage orientation?

I'm wondering if there is much difference in the way a mic is stored in relation to it's diaphragm or ribbon? I have heard people talk about longer ribbons being sensitive to stretching if they are stored face up (like a hammock), but what about other mics? I am inclined to store everything vertical...

A Tape Op omni is a cheap way of getting in on the fun. Sound not bad too.

Personality Crisis.
They put out an album called 'Creatures for a While' in '84 which was re-released (half-heartedly) in '90. They were considered punk rock at the time, but I'd say Rock'n' Roll. Might be hard to dig up, but worth the effort IMHO.

Those are tough to find. I have been keeping an eye out locally for a while and have had no luck, and they're too rich for my blood on ebay. I found you can use an old Cannon XLR (with the rubber pin surround) in the mean time, just be aware that the pin configuration is different so you'll need to ...

I was in a band that signed with a major label in the late 90's. When it came to song credit we had a pretty pinko attitude. Everyone contributed to the song formation and everyone received a fair cut. Even previous members who were around to 'touch' a song were cut in. We had 2 main songwriters, bu...

The 5532 is a dual, and I forget which BB will replace it. The OPA604 will not drop in place of the 5532, only the 5534, which is the single.
Just Google '5532 op amp upgrade' and you will find all the info you need.
Same for the TL074, although I don't think it's too shabby if I recall correctly.
