Their can be massive differences from one EQ design to another... Getting one of those Neve Portico's for live use would be kinda pricey, and probably a little too subtle for the extreme crunch you want. Hmm, compared to Magneto... you find the Portico to subtle or tame ? What would happen if I routed the signal into the Portico at a really hot level ? here's one...

I've noticed this phenomenon before... remove the strip, contact clean all the mult-connections (use Caig's dEOXIT 5) also, removing each IC-OPamp and spraying a dirth of contact cleaner in each socket... or legs of the chip can also help. If this fails to clear up the problem, possibly replacing so...
