I love the jfet, I use it slightly more often than the tube pre although they sound somewhat similar. The tube pre has a slight transient compression that could be what you want or not in any given situation. I feel like the jfet has a more extended low frequency response. I like it for voice over r...

I have a pair of Radio Shack TOS to SPDIF converters for use with my G5, one for input and one for out. They sound great. I can't say I notice any sound degradation, YMMV. It seems to me that its merely a format changer and not actually doing anything to the signal. I could be wrong. Best part is I ...

I tried two different configurations, A: by pulling the outside tubes, ie 1 and 4, and B: by pulling one pair of tubes, like 3 and 4 for example. YMMV, at your own risk. sounded rad, the thing never sounded better. I had that amp for like 14 years, and since then I have acquired and built many other...

Wow thats awesome, I will certainly dig deeper into this. I am, however, unable to download the docs you posted, all I see is a blank page. Seems like it would be cool to have a selectable transformer in / out option, as well as impedance taps. Are you also using the tone control for anything? If yo...

You say you are using it without input transformers? With microphones?

BTW, this thing makes a pretty rad guitar amp with no modifications...

Hi, I am also looking to do some modifications on an Akai branded version of this same tape machine. I tried your link but the site is blank. Thank you very much for sharing your research and knowledge. I was planning on using some input and output transformers pulled from some ADM cards, the input ...

I used to have a similar amp, Music Man 210HD One Fifty. When I got it it had the EL34's and I switched it back to 6L6. I found that the Sovtek 5881 WXT sounded the best, also, pulling two tubes gave it a much more pleasant sound, more organic, less metallic. I was never sure if pulling tubes was ba...
