Should I get a Tape Machine? (Tascam MS 16?)

I've recently moved my studio into a larger space and was struck by the fact that I suddenly have room for a tape machine if I wanted one... I've been recording for about 7 years, using the Alesis HD24 for the last 4-5 and am definitely happy with the current set-up. Having tape as an option seems c...

i'd highly recommend Tone Jam FX's sniper mod on the boss GE-7 eq. it sounds great, and way better, less noisy than stock.

i tried the behringer eq because it was so cheap, even though i should have known better, and anyways it is a joke, stay far far away from it.

Just played around with it on the Masterlink for the first time tonight, definitely seems useable and helpful, although i worry about the limitation of not being able to listen to it limited while mixing? also, i can't help but wis there was some sort of metering, just because i'm used to it. what r...

hmmmm, honestly i've never played around with the masterlink's built in software, etc, maybe i should give it's limiter a listen. i should probably just read the manual, and spend some time with it, but i always worried that when using it's built in processors that you couldn't adjust it while you l...

ISO: Cheapish Decent Mix Bus Limiter

I have recently upgraded my mix down compression and burning from a Finalizer and Tascam burner to a Chameleon labs 7720 and a masterlink.... so far i am very happy with the results, but i have noticed a downside... For the bands that I record who just want a demo, or something they're pressing 300 ...

Yes amp noise could be a problem, I had thought about trying to use some sort of device that would be able to remotely turn the amp on and off. something like this, although this is just one i found quickly on the net: http://www.doityourselfhut.com/wireless_light_switch.htm any other ideas or sugge...

yeah i wondered about FM transmitters etc causing extra noise. I definitely will be using many tube amps, and I'm sure sometimes there will be a lot of gain that would only make it worse. I had considered using a small practice type amp similar to the p.a. idea. I thought it was ridiculous, but mayb...

Intercom or ?? as Talkback for Live Room w/ no Headphones?

This is a situation that I'm sure some people must have researched enough to have a good answer for.... maybe? For years I've recorded bands playing live in my studio with no headphones. In my opinion playing without headphones feels more natural and is likely to cause less stress, etc. Anyways, I d...

Thanks for all the input from everyone, I haven't had much internet access and I'm currently in a world of dial-up, so even when I do get on the net, it's pretty limiting...... anyways, I decided to pick up a Little Labs STD after reading about it a bit (and I really like my IBP JR), and just used i...

25+ feet from Control Room to Live Room - Guitar Cables?

I've got a new studio space set up and it's pretty sweet, many improvements over my old spot, however the live room is separated from the control room by another room about 20-25 feet long. i never had a window into the live room so that element of this situation doesn't phase me at all (if you're w...
