A different tone. The coloration is different. You'd have to experiment to see what you like on each source.

I have found that these EH pre's work really well on vocals, especially with fet mics. I have SP B1's and B3's from your list and the EH tube pre's really warm them up and add depth. If you put a 12AT7 tube in the right side of the pre with these mics it changes the thickness of the sound in a reall...

Yea, it definitely sounds like there's a problem with the pre itself. Hopefully EH will help you out with this.

I have three 12AY7 pre's and they don't hum or buzz but they do have the tube hiss that you're talking about. It's more audible with headphones and the pre's gain has nothing to do with it, as you've mentioned. I've also tried different tubes with no difference. My "solution" has been to either pad ...

The 2480 does export wav files.

but even the stock 002 will kick the Roland's ass. Being that they both use the same converters and the 2480 uses 5532 opamps vs the 4580's in the Digi 002, how is the stock 002 kicking the Roland's ass? The Digi 003 was "upgraded" with 5532 opamps. Have you actually used a 2480 to draw these concl...

It's been dificult for me to find info about this, I must be doing something wrong when I do searches I guess.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, I've noticed a quiet hiss, even with the level off, so it's not coming from a mic, but I figured that that's what tubes do. It's not something you'ld hear in a mix, but I wondered about the buildup across many channels or a quiet passage in a song also. I guess that you could just use a gate i...

"Ideally", you don't want a pre running into a another pre, but, if you keep the internal pre's level all the way down (hopefully it still passes sound) and maybe even pad the input (if necessary), it'll work fine and it shouldn't alter the sound noticably. I've read manytimes that people have run h...

Actually, the tube on the left is the driver. If it's distorting then you need to put the 12AU7 back in the 1st slot 'cuz the 12AT7 can't drive that mic. The right hand tube is the pre tube. That's where you can get some more gain with a 12AX7, etc. I learned this via this post by the guy who design...

I've neen haunted by intonation issues even after getting my guitar intonated for decades!! I'm one of those people that hear tuning problems that most others don't hear, so I had to constantly retune for different songs and got pretty good at being able to "adjust" the tuning by bending certain str...

8th, Thanks for the reply info. I guess, like many, I made an assumption that when you said about the fuller bottom that it implied "better", but you're absolutely right, different means different, not better. I really appreciate all the comparing that you've done. It really helps to have a refferen...

Yeh, I hear ya. I thought about the what it would do to the sound, but, man, ya gotta do something to make this stuff work together.

Patchbays can alter the sound ,too, right?

The thing with the ART is, it has XLR, TR and RCA I/O and you can use any combination in any direction.

The designer of the EH pre said it's fine to use any 12A_7 tube in the pre for what he called "tube rolling".

I appreciate all your input on this subject.

I just noticed that you're in Nashville, too. Small world.

What about this-

I have a similar situation with RCA I/O. This looks like it could work.
