Re: microphone death

Had an EV dynamic from late 90s/early aughts. Cannot remember which model. It had super low output, terrible bass response, was distorted, etc. But perfect for certain very specific things. Eventually I gave up on it and dissected it. The voice coil/ diaphragm assembly was molded plastic so I destro...

Re: Overdrive pedals educate me

I too love a RAT. I've nodded mine some, being able to select the type of clipping diodes or take them out of circuit is super useful imo. It can work as drive, distortion, or fuzz, all depending on how it's used. I've tried plenty of other pedals and always come back to it

Clown Core's new album is, well it's just fascinating. So much talent and nerd-ery put into an elaborate unlistenable joke that's peppered with profundity https://youtu.be/6Gha9xrM10w Sly's There's a Riot Going On, I've been leaving the second side repeating on the record changer quite a bit lately....

Re: Cymbals Eat Snare

Listen to the difference between nylon tips and wood sticks sometime. That's drastic. Tip shape can make a big difference too - round vs oval vs acorn etc. And a stick with a longer shoulder/taper will have a different sound and feel. For the last few years I've been sanding the shoulder down on 5a...

Stick choice can help - assuming you can convince the drummer.

Looks like you're contemplating something similar to a quadratic residue diffuser. Searching that may find you some useful info. It's a rabbit hole, have fun.

Though it would likely be a shame to do so, that Viola Audio looks like a prime candidate for some truly amazing bending hackery.

YouTube obviously knows I've been reading this thread, as several Guthrie Govan have popped up in the last few days.

Early 70's Ventura Electric Guitar. It's a MIJ lawsuit copy of the Epiphone Al Caiola model. It's a 335 that's sealed and fully hollow (no f holes). 2 humbuckers, vol and vol for the pickups, 4 switches. 2 for each pickup on/off. then 2 for tone on/off for each pickup. it's basically tone on full o...

Re: Downsizing advice

I've got gear overload. Either need a larger space or a serious gear reduction. Right now I have a spare bedroom that is practically un-navigable due to, well, hoarding.
But I too hate the selling process.

Seems like everything was easier when I had the br8 and a 57.
