converters.. what are the differences?
I've heard alot of talk about mics, preamps, etc, and i feel I understand the differences there pretty well. Now I need to understand the differences between converters. I hear people talking about improved stereo field with a good time clock, and I know some converters have a limiting system (ie. r...

On one of the records my band did, we created a feedback loop running a guitar amp>piano>57>console>guitar amp and on and on. It's a cool droning sound, and we actually got it to a place where it was controlled, then left it on overnight and recorded. (DAW of course) after about 8 hours everything h...

The city I work for absolutely does not want it's name on the Anti-choice girl's CD because then it looks like the city and parks and recreation department not only condone, but encourage her beliefs. There's a difference between "Piss Christ" and raising money with "Piss Christ" to burn down churc...

it kinda makes me curious about what might be so bad about just saying something else to get out of it. I've been tempted to do that a few times. It does seem to kindof defeat the purpose of taking a stand though. If you believe in something strongly enough to deny someone based on that belief, it ...

Thanks guys. I've been experimenting around with limited or no gates, and reworking my mixing style a bit. It just might work. I've also discovered that having a good room is quite valuable in being able to leave mics open. I've been tracking in a small room that seems to bounce every other sound in...

drum gates?
hey all, I was wondering how you use gates on drums when close-miking. I've experimented with careful gating, and on toms just leaving them open and editing out the bleed. Any other good ideas? I'd love to hear how you guys do it. I like the open sound without gates, but sometimes cymbal bleed is a ...

Some good ideas here. I did actually try clipping the converters, but even though they didn't make a super terrible noise, my mixes were impossible to listen to for very long. Very square waves=bad. I appreciate all the input once again. I love the fact that I can post on here and get a multitude of...

Thanks for all your input! I know it can be a touchy subject, and I'm just looking for tricks that people have found that help it get loud without ruining the mix. For the record I use mostly wave plugins the L2, the linear MB compressor and the linear EQ. I've also found that the quality of arrange...
