The Cows album 'Whorn' has the bass and guitar panned left/right respectively. I think it sounds fantastic, but it was recorded live in the studio and there is a lot of bleed from the other instruments.

Wow, this is awful. :(

I was fairly new to him and his music but I really like North Star Deserter and At the Cut.

Overall I think the mix sounds really good! At around 4:11 there's a guitar that comes in, that I wish was a little louder. I tend to like more ethereal sounding stuff over a really thick rhythm section though. Kind of a subjective thing really.

NY Mastering Technique

Does anyone have any good links or tips on how to use the NY mastering technique. I know I've heard it mentioned before but I'm having trouble finding it in searches (both google and here) because there are so many mastering studios in NY. What I'm referring to is mastering by mixing a really compre...

virb.com is my favorite. Myspace just feels like spam, both as a fan and as a band. It sucks. Virb is real interaction with other musicians who actually might give a shit about your ideas a musician. You might not make a lot of "fans" there but the quality of the interaction will be better. I think ...

I started putting a cheap MXL large diaphragm condenser in a small metal trash can three or four feet away from the kit. I'll then put blankets over it and create a little tunnel to the kick. I'll use this in conjunction with dynamic close mic'd but will usually mix the 'can' mic higher because it s...

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. We ended up just getting on skype and sending the zipped sessions to each other that way. It worked pretty well actually.

can you overdub using these things? If so, I might have to bite as well. I have the regular H4 and you overdub with that. It basically works like a four track...so you can bounce down even to get more than four tracks. It sounds like the H4n does everything the H4 does, only better. Gah! I've had m...
