Re: Hey Subscribers - got Jan/Feb yet?

I was in a bookstore last week and saw a new issue of TapeOp that I haven't received yet, the one with the dog on the cover and Steven Street's name on it. Have any other subscribers received this issue yet? I'm starting to think there's something wrong with my subscription. Tia for letting me know...

Does it matter which end of the bag of sand you open to begin pouring? I've heard that the sand sounds better if you open the end that doesn't have "open this end" written on it. I think it has something to do with reversing the alignment of the sand grains. I've also heard that if you color in the ...

A couple other suggestions: If you're looking for an overdrive pedal, I'd recommend a Tube Screamer, the "yellow box" DOD 250 overdrive, or a Full-Drive. The Tube Screamer will give you the midrange bump, but with a Twin set on about three (loud and clean) the midrange will help cut through. The 250...

With two amps running (probably on the same circuit and/or power strip) you're going to need to lift the ground on one of the amps' power cords. Just use one of those three-prong to two-prong adapter thing-a-ma-jigs. You'll still be grounded with the working three-prong power cord on the amp you hav...

Don't tell the indie credibility police, but I think Appetite for Destruction is a fairly awesome piece of hard rock. This has been bugging me all afternoon. Doesn't the statute of limitations run out at some point, where indie cred is concerned? I think AFD came out in about 1987 which would make ...

The first fifteen seconds of Holidays in the Sun from Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols.

You can hear the room literally shaking from the volume of Steve Jones' amp.

Plug your Super with the 2-Ohm minimum output into the 8-Ohm iso cab and you'll be fine. The output impedance of an amplifier represents the minimum load it can be presented and still be safe (i.e., not dissipate to much power and overload the output tubes and/or transformer). You can connect a cab...

On the non-Fender side, check out the Music Man amps from the late 70s-early 80s. Very Fender-esque and a comparative bargain.

You may also want to look at the old Ampeg V-22 combos (loud and clean as all get-out, not chimey like a Fender but definitely usable).

If you've got one, you may want to try running a stompbox EQ (like the Boss Graphic EQ) in front of the amp...and slam one of the frequency bands to hit the amp hard. You might get the feedback you're looking for.

For late 80s/early 90s, I'd have to add Sisters of Mercy (dark, gothic electropop), the Mission UK, and Dreamtime/Love-era Cult.

I've played fretted electric for about 12 years. I've had a couple cheap fretless electrics, and have screwed around with a few uprights at stores and what-not. I really really love the upright vibe, and have even liked the feel of a couple EUB's. The thing is that I don't know of a decent local sh...

Re: Amp recommendations

Hi all, I recently started playing guitar in a rock 'n' roll band and my little Vibrochamp just isn't cutting it  I'd use my Egnater TOL head but the other guitarist is too poor to afford an amp! So, I think I need to get a new amp. I basically want a louder version of my silverface champ with...

Re: help !!! guitar amp feedback

No real problems with mixing and matching preamp tubes. 12AX7s, 12AY7s, and 12AT7s all pin out identically and can be interchanged with no problems. Likewise, you can mix and match preamp tubes to your heart's content with no ill effects...but different brands will change the tone of your amp, the q...
