So here's my really rough mix. As an experiment I set a timer for one hour, and this is what I could do in that time frame (not including rendering, just an hour of mix time). There's no automation or anything. If I were to spend more time on this mix I'd probably make things a bit less tubby, and s...

If you were just gonna record the voice and acoustic guitar in the room, then I'd use the two 414s in fig 8, arranged so the mic null points are toward what you don't want them to hear. Close to a blumlein setup in front ith the mics at the right angles. Using the amp that way pretty much necessitat...

This will work ok, though probably not as well as 703 or 705. Also, I would not use a backstop of pegboard or any kind of wood. This will reduce airflow through the trap which will reduce its effectiveness. You want as little of the insulation to be covered up (except with acoustically transparent c...

Re: first reflection absorbers
I put the first reflection absorbers back and started to do more treatments on the back walls but up high. More to come Good man. I never understood the argument in the OP. I have to assume that people who argue against a RFZ have never listened in one. Put panels up, listen to depth & detail of th...

Re: AES 2015 NYC
1. The latest acoustic treatment products. Yeah these are always interesting. Though admittedly part of me is suspicious about the new-product buzz cycle for stuff like acoustic treatment. I mean, if you get the design right the first time, it's kind of hard to improve on them, no? We actually ran ...

Yes, I think overall your thinking makes sense (to the OP here). I'd totally use a ribbon mic for a trombone. If it was a great room and I wanted to capture that, I might use M/S. But I'd be more likely to just use a mono close mic, and maybe a 2nd room mic further away. I've been into that lately. ...
