Re: FS: Otari MX5050 8-trk

If the tape machine works... don't part out the machine parts. It sounds like it's in great shape, and I'm sure somebody will buy it. You could always sell some of the accessories. I'm sure somebody would pay good money for the autolocator. I would be interested in the stand, but I'm sure it's prett...

Re: RME owners/users

I have never done a listening session between the different sample rates, but my multiface D/A sounds better than the digi 888/24, and it sounds about as good as the digi HD 96i/o. Which is pretty damn good considering the price of the multiface. I cannot tell that much of a difference between 48k a...

Re: Motu HD192 and pro tools HD

Is everybody forgetting that the protools HD system comes with a significant amount of plug-in/mix bus processing? That is the main difference pricewise. Hell... you could get the e-mu 0404 interface for $99. It does 192 khz as well. It's not going to sound like a $10k PT HD system. If you look at p...

Re: need help recording sound effects of cars

If you're looking for a cheap portable recorder, minidisks will work in a pinch. You can also get the iriver portable mp3/wav player/recorder and a separate (small) mic pre (like the core sound: http://www.core-sound.com/Mic2496.html). The shure vp-88 is nice, but pricey. The AT stereo mics are pret...

Re: AES made me sad.

Highlites - The Legacy Audio Masterpiece had me wanting to sell a kidney to get one... Do you mean the Legendary Audio Masterpiece Mastering system? I met Billy Stull who co-designed this piece of gear with Rupert Neve. He mastered the last cd I recorded. It really is a cool, well-designed product....

Re: RME on Mac?

I picked the Fireface 800 because of all the many features it has, and it's relatively low price. It's the RME product that interests me the most. I wouldn't agree that PCI interfaces always have less latency than firewire. All audio interfaces are different. Some of the early firewire interfaces ha...

quick bass trap question...

I looked for an answer in the archives, but couldn't find one.... I'm moving into a new office/ audio editing and mixing suite. I have a big 5 drawer metal filing cabinet, and I was wondering if it would be dumb to put it in the corner of the room. It is pretty much a large cube of a room at 16'x16'...

Re: 1966 Hammond M101 Organ (local Austin only)

Tell me about it. Can you get anything better for $250? Yet... this is the 2nd time I've tried to sell it and no buyers. It's frustrating. I just don't have the room anymore, and I need $$$.

1966 Hammond M101 Organ (local Austin only)

I have an all original Hammond M101 spinet for sale. I cannot ship this, but it is a great deal for any local tapeoppers. There is a full description with pics on the Austin TX craigslist here:

I hate to see this go... gotta do it.

Re: RME on Mac?

I assume your talking about the RME fireface 800? I don't think they have osx drivers out yet, so I'm not sure if there are latency issues. According to the literature, it doesn't look like there will be. i guess you will need a firewire 800 port as well. Now that Logic 7 will be shipping soon, I'm ...

Re: RME on Mac?

I used to have an RME multiface connected to a pcmcia card in a powerbook G4 (2 years ago). It worked fine, and sounded exceptional. It sounded better than a digidesign 888/24 interface to me. I would recommend an RME interface, and I would probably use firewire because you could use it on a desktop...

Re: Vocoder needed; any ideas?

The Nord Micro Modular has a good vocoder on it. You can get them for $200-$250. It has a lot of good fx, and synth sounds as well. You can download thousands of user patches.
