Have to second the combination of proper samples and midi instrument 1) Use a midi instrument you can do a roll on - I use mini-Kat and roland Handsonic 2) get samples with actual variation in them depending on velocity etc. also depending on the instrument you are trying to emulate lets say a snare...

There variations in response to the heat depending on the stamping plant which made the record. American plants used modern vinyl with sufficient thickness to be reasonably stable The worst was from Barbados - this was like a second source for the big American labels - they were thin and bent from p...

For the older/cheaper systems i think the faults were in order of frequency 1) Any coil driver in a mid-horn or tweeter - might as well walk with a box of them. Use piezo-electric drivers or spend the night replacing coils in your horns. 2) 18" speaker repair kits - there were two problems with thes...

Here goes - I didn't want to Hijack the thread with an overly long post I used to be involved in that scene (in Trinidad at least) since the 70's and still do a little now - it was more DIY back then because the big guys had not taken the market seriously. AFAIK - these days the super groups (sound-...

Some examples are perhaps in order. Stewart Copeland's hat? The hats on Aja ? I guess if i was picking sounds i would say the hats from Bob Marley lets say Rastaman Vibrations or Exodus rather than the "bell"y type like say the early Al Green. As far as fancy engineering goes - the most I do now is...

I know i can equalize it but I also want the chomp sound (which is why I am doing my own loops instead of using individual samples) I want to get the transition sound of the pedal motion...

The basic two factors should be note/tone and velocity/volume. So for each (keyboard) key you should have the ability to map that tone s...

arpeggiator synchronization is king in this genre
You can go by the old way - with older analog synths and "play" the arpeggiation by hand - in that case record like any other direct from keyboard The newer method is to synch everything with midi clock - so make sure the DAW you get can be a synch slave and synch master this way you can synch the s...
