With smaller shops like FMR, it may be really easy to contact them and have them mail you a replacement knob. It's worth a try...

I don't spend a TON of money on my gear, but here's what I did with $800. FMR RNP - new $475 AT 4033a - used $200 (2) Oktava MK012 - new pair for $100 at GC (ask them and they may give you that deal) Total: $775 I think it would be possible for you to get those four items for $800 if you wanted to. ...

If less than $250 per channel is affordable to you, there are FMR's RNP (2 channels w/hi-z ins) and Sytek's MPX-4Aii (4 channels). Those are both really nice and made by good people.

If you live in Denton, give The Echo Lab a call and see if you could maybe rent/check out some of their mics. They have a great studio and gear. It's where Will Johnson and Centro-matic have recorded.

The guy that turned me on to Iron & Wine mentioned that the singer records all his vocals to cassette tape first. A great unconventional wisdom there and a fucking cool sound to boot. Is the new album done like that too or are vocals straight to 2"? Some of the first batch of songs (the creek drank...

I have a few of those Mogami Silver mic cables. They're really nice. They're a bit thin (not sure of the gauge), but seem to be of good quality. No noise issues, but know that I'm recording on a 424 -- and I'm not a nerd about mic cables.

agreed.

saw them on that tour in Cleveland at the Grog Shop.

during tom courtenay, they had to stop because some equipment started failing. after they figured it out, they played the slow, b-side version where georgia sings.

blue line swinger was awesome too.

Sufjan Stevens --Come on feel the Illinoise

Since there's always a good amount of discussion on here about spending big money on gear, I thought I'd post this for those of you familiar with Sufjan Stevens. It's really crazy if you think the album sounds as amazing as I do. To the best of my knowledge/reading, this is all true -- please correc...
