I was highly considering one, but I'm a bit thwarted by something like the Apollo (newer with plugs and future thunderbolt capab.) or the RME UFX.

Would you still buy the Apogee ensemble if you were in my shoes with those above units being available?

Well, I ended up going with the pro-ject debut iii. A little above the budget, but it has some positive reviews, is simple and does everything I need. I bought a Rolls phono preamp to go with it, and am now thinking about some powered speakers to mount on to the wall above it. Thanks for the info.
