Re: Could Forums Like This Make a Comeback?
I don’t see the point of FB groups unless you just like to see the same few things repeated over and over again, and can’t find anything. Forums make a lot more sense as knowledge bases. Does anyone go to libraries anymore?

Re: SM-7B and LA-610
In my heavy SM-7 era I always had it hitting a Gates SA series octal tube program amp with 70dB available. That mic really seems to work on more random people than most, and older style tube gain always complements it. Certainly wouldn’t be the same into a Sytek.

Re: Mic pads — they all work the same, right?
Pad between input transformer and active circuit is dependent on transformer headroom, very few will distort from a mic source. Some will. There is always some kind of effect from a transformer, though the better ones will not have much effect. Jensens are “better”, but they will distort on low bas...

Re: anyone working at 96k?
Switched to 88 around 2007, sounded very obviously better with my converters. The entire top end sounded pretty trashy in comparison at 44/48. Moved to 96 for awhile when a whole generation of stuff was only 44/48/96, then back to 88 when it passed. My converters since 2014 are fine at 48k. I usuall...
