DAW Recording on Mac - Startup drive as storage drive in 2021

Hello, It has been years since I did extensive DAW recording but back in the day, I was told to have my recording drive be separate from my OS and boot drive. Is this still a consideration with SSD Drives? Also, I used to get the advice with 7200 RPM drives go have smaller partitions to record. Is t...

Presonus no longer supports OSX 10.4.11 for Firestudio.

I rented a Presonus Firestudio today. I am currently using Mac OS X 10.4.11 on a G4 Gigabit Ethernet tower. I downloaded the drivers in the form of their Universal Control app but they didn't work for me. I learned from their website but the new download does not support 10.4. Does anybody know how ...

I was thinking of soldering a 4 TRS daisy-chain to put in my patch bay to create a mult. If I have all three mult-ed outputs going to a source will there be a level dip at any or all of the sources?

Drive partitions not showing up

I have a IDE hard drive in a firewire enclosure. Using a G4 500 in OS 10.4.11 3 of the 6 my hard drive partitions won't mount and they can not be repaired in OSX Disc Utility or DiskWarrior. javascript:emoticon('') Could anybody suggest any remedies? I would like to think that the data isn't lo...

I have had the shure level-loc clone The Sherlock for years now and not put it together. My kit seems incomplete. I have the circuit board, the components and a set of directions in paragraph form but no schematic or visual diagram. Does anyone know if it ever came with all these things?

Thanks! As of this evening I found the circuit board in my parts bin. Once I remembered the name of it was the SHERLOCK I did keyword searches on the board and found some more info. Someone posted the text of Drew's step by step instructions which is very valuable but still I am lacking diagrams and...

shure level lock clone

Does anyone remember the DIY kit to make a clone of the Shure Level Lock? Was it called the Shurelok? Surelock? I can't remember. What I do know is that I have the parts kit that I ordered. Yet I don't have the circuit board nor the assembly manual. I would love to finally build it. It has been abou...

In Boston, the Production and Engineering office at Berklee used to have them in addition to other recording mags. I remember being sent down to the studio office as well.

Remove the fan? That seems a little crazy to me. I think my other G4 started crapping out when i deprived it of proper air flow. Damn. Maybe I should have just splurged for the G5. : (

LOUD Mac G4 Dual 500mhz

After much deliberation and budget considerations I bought a used G4 dual 500 "Gigabit Ethernet" model from circa 2000. My dual450 was on the fritz and this way I figured I could salvage my RAM, DVD-R, MOTU card, etc and put it into the 500. When i turned on the 500 I was shocked to find it has extr...

Im curious as to why you'd want to go back to hard disc? Latency, clock anomalies, boot-up time, crashes, using a mouse with a guitar strapped on and staring at a computer screen. ...And ultimately the lack of immediacy that the computer gives you when you want to put down an idea. I am trying to s...

best all-in-one hard disk recorder?

I am thinking of switching back from my computer to a dedicated hard disk recorder. There are a slew of them on the market and all relatively cheap. Anyone have any success stories? Regrets? I am looking for something simple with hands on controls and without layers and layers of menu options. The Y...
