Mine is on the fritz (see my post below) but I really like my AT4047 for a slightly 'darker' feel. I suppose that's a rather relative assessment since often the characteristics of a mic are wholly contingent upon the source, in this case, my goat-like voice . . . b-a-a-a-a

Yeah it's not the pad. The AT support staff suggested the same thing via email. Other condensers work just fine. Hopefully it won't be too much of a problem going through repairs at AT. Thanks for the help . . .

perhaps i've busted my AT4047?

Hey Friends, I broke out my 4047 after a couple of months of storage (moving around, living like a gypsy) and realized that I have to crank the gain on my pre to about the same level as I would an SM57! I don't remember this being the case. Any guesses as to what could be wrong with the mic? I teste...

Thanks to everyone for all your gracious advice. It seems to be working out after reestablishing my aesthetic concerns. He's a good, knowledgeable guy and was quite receptive to my growing trepidations about recording and the overall scheme of the project. If I could buy everyone a round i surely wo...

On the Ac guitar point, Perhaps you can listen again to your example, and use EQ and compression creatively to reach that sound. Of course, the guitar does playa major role, so if you create the following rule, you might find it useful to get a different guitar: Spend 10 minutes, AND NO MORE tweaki...

How has he taken any of your comments so far? Does he seem willing to try it? Unwilling? Confused? Also, how far into it are you? Chris Garges Charlotte, NC[/quote] He's been pretty receptive so far though it's hard to gauge whether or not he's absorbing what I'm trying to put forth creatively. Las...

Just out of curiosity, what sort of things led you to hiring this guy in particular? I think that's an important part of figuring out how to proceed. Chris Garges Charlotte, NC I met him through a friend of mine and, in fact, consider him a friend, though a creative relationship can be an altogethe...

Proper Protocol When Dealing with a Producer/Engineer

I figured the wealth of experience on this board ought to help me with the following dilemma of sorts: I'm working with a producer on 3-6 songs and though his experience is well established (especially regarding the technical aspects of recording) aesthetically we tend to speak a different language....

Mastering in Los Angeles

Any recommendations on some reputable mastering studios in LA that won't require one or both of my testicles as payment?

Re: if ever you need to buy something at guitar center . . .

I used to work there as of a few weeks ago, so here's my advice. 1. True and not True. If you are a cool dude working on music i find interesting, I'd give you a discount without you even asking. If you're some one that walks in dressed to the nines and is a prick to me, I'll let you walk out even ...

my main reason . . .

The bottom line is that guitar center sucks the big fat one, but for items (strings, cases, etc.) it's worth my while if I can save a few bucks (I live in LA, which doesn't help things). Here's good example regarding why I posted in the first place: After suffering through the intolerable amounts of...

if ever you need to buy something at guitar center . . .

Here's a few tips to remember if you HAVE to buy something at guitar center (many of you probably know this already--and remember a lot of the people working there are working the proverbial shitjob like the rest of us so courtesy always helps): 1) Haggle to your heart's content. The salepeople are ...
