I was thinking about luan 1/8" plywood, but I like this idea better. that's a fair choice. fwiw, the majority of lauan plywood is harvested in a very unsustainable fashion (i.e. clearcutting of tropical forest in indonesia and malaysia). birch or other temperate hardwood species (esp. smart wood ce...

Wow, a resurrected post from what feels like ages ago. Ah well, a new response from me anyway... I recall the commandant at my high school once telling me that you learn as much, and indeed sometimes more, from people you dislike or with whom you disagree, because you learn about the kind of person...

I think Bob should do a Disco album -- songs like "Night Fever," and "Too Hot to Trot." He should get a killer spangled polyester disco suit and learn the latest break-dance moves. And then he should make the best album in the last 20 years, and go on tour to back it up. i think this thread is dead...

Re: first impression of baby bottle and s20 pre

no xlr inputs so i had to run the s20 through a little mackie first then into my interface, im sure thats not helping my sound at all as long as you're not boosting the trim much, i wouldn't think it'd have a negative effect. though inexpensive, mackies are pretty clean. btw, i love my baby bottle....

I've never been able to use an SG in a live situation because of the front strap button being so close to the balance point. I always feel like I'm having to hold up the neck which interferes with my playing. wonder if anyone has come up w/ a solution for this (aside from playing while seated). i'v...

Re: My mono overhead experience ...

does anybody else prefer the mono overhead sound? fwiw, we're using a pretty minimal (and somewhat odd) setup, mostly from necessity, but intrigued by the one overhead notion: one akg c1000s (40" or so up, aimed at edge of snare), sm57 2" from snare batter head, sm57 w/earthworks kickpad about 4" i...

ok, i've gone through this entire thread, and missed mention of a few of the kick drum sounds i've always thought were extra special- dave brubeck quartet: "take five", stones: "can't you hear me knocking", television: "marquee moon" (the whole album, but specifically "see no evil", "venus" and "gui...

You can get a good deal on the actual bass, if you can get it for 10k quid or so, but then what are you going to do if you break a string, have them make a new one for you? (snip) i for one would not like to be around when one of them strings breaks...nor would i think it wise to scuffle with the p...

very nice! i actually think i like the first one a little more, now that i've listened to it a few times; especially the end bits, where it gets kind of spare- and then the drums come in again...melancholic in the melody, yet the percussive bits keep it moving forward. nice balance. the drum part in...

Yes, back in my day, all the recording were much better. Much Better!!! And that's not all - everything sounded better: car horns, doors slamming, the television. Even the garbage truck. Everything!! These days it's all just crap. I don't understand how anybody can stand it. Ridiculous! No definiti...
