from my experience, good support either costs money or the company is too small to NOT provide good support. it is sort of why a lot of companies farm out their tech support to india and china. it cuts down the bottom line really well. for american companies who cant afford to do that end up comprom...

Creative's xMod?!

http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=209&subcategory=668&product=15913 anyone seen/heard this thing? it seems like a quick fix to sloppy ripping, i guess. still kinda freaks me out. it gives less hope to a potential increase in quality of digital music sharing... take a look at that...

your guess is just about right. there is a guy, michael joly, who re-ribboned my oktava ml-52 for just about that much. he was referred to me by oktavamod.com. he is a good guy with a fast turn around.

audix d6 by the beater, d112 on the outside, ldc about 3 feet away slightly to the drummers left for that "meat" sound. depending on the kick, that gets most of the kick sound out of the way for other parts of the kick.

i like that one for the low end of a drum track

Suggestion for series

Hello Mr. Crane. Great freakin' mag! So, I have been reading for a few years now and with your addition of "Recording recipes" I have thought of something else. How about a case study of some engineer and how (s)he does what they do best. Say, how they put together a drum track from recording to mix...

kick and bass are wiley beasts. it all comes down to the sound of each instrument. overlapping frequencies are not necessarily a problem if you have some "designer" sounds. If you have a really busy bass player that uses a lot of (relative) high-end, you can use that to design your bass sound. In th...

M-Powered/m-audio struggles

I recently purchased an M-Audio 1814. It is a lovely unit and it sounds good. I have been running it with ableton, reason, etc. however, i really need it for protools. i started with os x 10.3.x. m-powered did not like panther, so, i bought tiger. tiger is a nice os, i like it, but, it is 10.4.7. no...

max is a cool program. i kind of use it for everything. i built a light controller/sampler thing for class which was kind of neat. it was just an on/off trigger deal, no dimming. i also have built a few mixer patches with fm, ring mods, etc on it. that was fun... i put it in my machine and when i ha...
