Re: motorboating?

not quite sure what sound that is? it's a very quick chorus/tremelo type sound. but can you give me another description of the sound you are describing. Sort of a putt-putting, idling, oscillating noise that is always present. Don't know if that helps. If you know how to safely work inside tube amp...

I imagine over time the copper strands will break apart from repeated stompings. How long until this creates a noticeable effect is probably a matter of cable type, flooring, and footwear. I'd be interested to know if anyone has done any real foot traffic durability testing on different cables. Unti...

Has the amp ever had a cap job? If the warbling sounds at all like "motorboating", it probably means the decoupling caps in your preamp are going belly up.

Does it always make the sounds? Do they increase or decrease when you use both channels?

I've bought a few weird boxes at thrift stores simply for their knobs, and for you high-rollers out there:

i played through a dual showman cabinet before and really dug how deep the guitar sounded. I'm looking to get that same feel just in a smaller package! The smaller you make the cabinet the less "deep" it will probably sound. There is a reason bass cabs are generally alot deeper than guitar cabs, yo...

For any bass related stuff: www.talkbass.com isn't too bad.

The only guitar one I use is the Fender discussion page: www.fenderforum.com

Focuses on Fender obviously, but also has discussions on other brands.

Thanks for all the advice. I've been looking around, and have found all sorts of options in my price range, but pretty much all come with Media Center as the OS. I've got a copy of XP Pro I can install, I was just wondering what my chances are of encountering issues when doing this? I know that with...

PC laptop suggestions or advice

I'm planning on buying a laptop before the years out and would welcome any suggestions on certain models or advice on things to look for and avoid. It will be used primarily for audio with occasional web and movie watching use. I don't see myself ever needing to record more than 8 tracks simultaneou...

Synths and Rhodes sounded great through my Sunn 300T powering a 1x15 and 4x10. Probably a little overkill, but great for loud bassy live use. I'd look for an old bass head with a pair of 6550's in it (Sunn, Traynor, Ampeg) and try some different cabinets out. That should get you close to a full rang...

You could always try a noise gate pedal at the end of you effects chain. Never tried one myself, but this is what their made for. I know Boss and MXR both make one, and I imagine there are others out there.

Tape still seems to be plentiful. But more importantly, when are people going to start tricking out their 388's?

I'm thinking about a snakeskin wrist rest, birdseye maple sides, and all ivory knobs. Maybe some neon blue underlighting as well.

I just put mine in storage yesterday, and as I closed the door to the unit, a single tear rolled down my cheek.

It is going to be a rough couple months without her.
