The problem was there to start with, but I think I exasperated it by putting a compressor in the chain (brilliant!). Now, it's a matter of 'fixing it in the mix'. (a tag line none of us want)....

Can you get the same effect (as described in the top post) by running
one compressor after another rather than using two seperate channels?
