Isn't it MORE complicated(phase) than that?(2 mics on drums

Ok, I've been recording this week with 2 condensor mics at about chest level (if you're standing in front of the drums) about a foot back from the bass drum's front. I've got a third mic on the port of the front bass drum head(but I don't think the bassdrum mic is part of this question) My questions...

Ha! Yeah, I like magicman's idea for the sig line! Thanks again for all the tips. Next time I'll do better. The problem was there to start with, but I think I exasperated it by putting a compressor in the chain (brilliant!). Now, it's a matter of 'fixing it in the mix'. (a tag line none of us want)....

gasping

I'll try the mic'ing from above next time. But, I think you folks are assuming that it is the wind from her blowing across the flute that's causing the wind noise. No, it's the sound of her grabbing a breath (*inhaling*) between phrases that's too loud. Come to think of it, it may be that she's not ...

How to avoid big breath sounds recording flute???

So I recorded my wife (she played flute in high school, pretty good, but not a pro) playing flute over a track. Got lots of big breath sounds. How does one avoid this? Mic placement? Mic choice? Is it all up to the technique of the player? I mean, they have to breathe, right? Any tips welcomed! THAN...

So,as of this writing, where IS the best place to buy tape?

I use Quantegy 456 1/2" and my machine is set up for that. I'd like to find the same or an equivalent. I've tried tapetape.com but they didn't have the 1/2". Without restarting any debate about whether Quantegy sucks or not, does anyone have knowldedge of a good source or a newbrand equivalent and i...

The caption in the last photo should read...

"Hello, my name is Jean Luc. I'd like to use the terribly compelling footage we shot in here this week and mix it with some ....oh, I don't know....maybe some pretentious film moments I have lying on the cutting room floor"

Jean Luc Godard's "Sympathy for the Devil"--mic qu

So in this film, you see the Stones develop the song: Sympathy for the Devil. I like some of this guy's films, but in this one, for me, it's only the Stone's footage that is fascinating. What studio are they in? [dig the multicolored baffles!] What is the long skinny mic that Jagger is singing into ...

Advice? travelling to UK w/ theremin(voltage converters etc)

Ok, I posted on thereminworld.com as well ---I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with those Radio Shack voltage converter things. In the UK (hope I get this right) they have 240v and 50cycles we, have 110 and 60cycles coming out of the wall. I was going to buy one of these 'dual wattage...

The other thing I've wondered about is..... this being a message board all dedicated to recording and stuff..... well, don't we wanna hear about HOW these things were done? i.e. recording chains, special problems encountered or problems solv...

A place to list equipment, techniques, arrangement tricks?

Hey Folks, This being a recording-centric website, I think, beyond the fun of hearing each other's stabs at Wilson-Greatness, I'd like to know how folks DID what they did: equipment used, arrangement difficulties they solved, techniques, etc. Any thoughts on how we can do this? Pulish it along with ...

Can you get the same effect (as described in the top post) by running
one compressor after another rather than using two seperate channels?

Musician Travels Interntl.--customs problems,etc?

My band and I are travelling [from California] to England(Liverpool/Manchester) in late spring----Much of our equipment---amps/drumset ---will be provided. We may or may not bring guitars --- 1)I'm wondering if things like stomp boxes/tuners etc. will look super frightening to customs inspectors----...
