Re: Big Muff keeps killing signal.

if it wasn't clear i the last post, the 'my pedal' for boost was supposed to impy a second pedal, not being the Rat, and it's also supposed to be understood, that the other pedal referred to as 'my pedal' was mistakenly put BEFORE the Rat in this example. If I could spell and write, I could be under...

Re: Big Muff keeps killing signal.

Some distortion pedals act as very powerful compressors. For this reason, I never put my Rat pedal at the END of the chain. If I forget this trick, I'll have the Rat on for a bit of distortion, hit my pedal for some more boost during the solo....and fzzzt-----tone changes a bit, but no noticeable vo...

Re: Blood Sugar Sex Magic and your F you indie spirit

Hello Soundguy, and while I think I understand your point, I figured that was one of the generally agreed upon ideas in this tapeop world--that we can get some quality work done outside of the 'typical major studio scene'----I thought that was what sort of drove the DIY folk in the first place. I kn...

Re: Ampeg Reverberocket

I've got a (maybe 8 year old?)Reverberocket and an old Fender Deluxe.
I like them both , but they're different.
The Fender is brighter and edgier.
The Ampeg is smoother.
The Fender rules if going for a surf-like tone.
The Ampeg is nicer for a Beatle-esque thing.

Re: where is it all going? [rant]

As Joel said, there?s never been a better time to be a D.I.Y.er. But the doityerselfers tradition goes way back. William Blake, the strange poet, printed his own books?didn?t trust others to be able to print up the illustrations with the care that he would show in the process. Virginia Woolf was D.I...

Re: What Did You Work On Today? 1-26-05

I remixed the same song for the fourth time. It's one of those you mix, and then you think....ummm...no---maybe if I add..... so I added some wierd guitar noise at the end, and I'm hoping when I listen to the mix again later I won't start the dreaded obsessive cycle all over again I've been working ...

Re: (Whatever works) Equipment you love but evreyone else ha

yeah, I've chimed in for the CS1000 every time a "CS1000s Suck" thread comes up. I wouldn't use them for everything. But for a lot of small acoustic instruments, it seems easy to get a useable sound. Acoustic guitars, bongos, percussion----I put it up, and it works, and it works in the mix (to me, a...

Well, so how did he mic the bears?
I have a friend that uses a Modified Gyn Johns approach to mic'ing forest creatures.

John.....wouldn't having an upper register instrument in the same speaker as a lower one be good?...I mean for clarity.....? I'm just askin'. Wouldn't putting all the low things on one side make it all mucky on side? ---I could be way wrong----if someone has had intersting experience in this area in...

Re: compression on whole mix?..but I LIKE it already!

Thanks guys for the suggestions so far (I'm open to more). The idea of making multiple mixes is what I'm trying--as guessed above, I'm doing this in my own space and so it's no big cost or anything. -----as far as listening---------- yes, I do, but some of the differences are very subtle..and I don'...

compression on whole mix?..but I LIKE it already!

Hey folks-----I finished a track....it's very dynamic with very 'peak'y percussive instruments----a sort of miniture harp box thing that I believe is called a "psaltry", a few toy pianos, (and voices). ---ok, here it is. I LIKE how it sounds....but it's got dynamic level (ewwwwwwwwwww, that can't be...
