100% wet for hardware effects in series?

Hi, I have a question regarding blending effects from tracks that have already been recorded in a DAW. I've been wanting to incorporate hardware guitar pedal effects into my clean DAW (I know this can be done with plugins but I like my pedals a bit too much) and as I've read, one approach is to outp...

syncing Yamaha mt4x 4 track recorder to DAW

Hi everyone, I'm sure that a variation of this question has been asked a dozen times over but from searching on Google, I get varying answers from "it can't be done, too much wow and flutter" to "can be done, if syncing to the tape machine's motor"...so since this is TapeOp, I figure this would be a...

any chance of an interview with Shugo Tokumaru?

I know this is a long shot because he's Japanese and it would be difficult to get ahold of him but I've been pretty fascinated with his sound for a long time (he's been called a Japanese "Sufjan Stevens", though I don't really believe that opinion). He played 100 different instruments on his last al...

ok, thanks for the replies everyone, i'll make sure to check them all out (though i don't think i'll be able to afford any kind of NS10, haha). also, dave, saved by technology is selling the previous gen RP5s for about $135, so i'm tempted to go there but i'll also check out moog audio since they se...

monitor recommendations ($350 - 400 Canadian)?

I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for a dual pair of monitors costing about $350 - 400 (Canadian) total. I know that that budget will mean I'll never be able to get anything like old NS10s but I figure that most things will be better than the old Compaq JBL speakers I'm currently mi...

need help about cd/mp3 line in through guitar amps

My friend is using his line6 spider practice amp as pretty much a speaker for his vocals, mic'ed instruments and other keyboard stuff (rather than using a PA) and I wonder if its ok to do this, since I heard that putting certain instruments through guitar amps (i.e. bass) will eventually rip the spe...

i used to make electronic stuff, now i think it's folk

I have three tracks under the title Winter Vendors on my MySpace page. I used to make electronic music (and there's a remnant of that on the page, under one track called "Archway Denouement") but I had an overwhelming urge to bury my MicroKorg this year and rely just on guitars, ukeleles, glocks, ra...

You can get it at Carbon Computing in their Sound and Picture department. Queen St. east of Broadview. They usually stock back issues too.

There is no doubt I have many years of learning ahead of me... I know there are so many factors that make certain recording sound great. I still have a recording I did on a cheesy 4-track back in the 80's, I am still amazed how it sounds.... forget about how many times I had to mix down tracks to f...

ok, so i'm a bit of a newbie at this game and i was wondering why my mixes were sounding so thin. anyways, i just want to clarify a few things. after all the mixing, how much overall headroom should i leave? and after recording at nominally -18 dbfs, what average levels would the individual tracks h...
