Re: delivery resolutions for digital

If they're pressing CDs, then this seems sensible.

Even if you're just using them for access to streaming, 16/44.1 is higher fidelity than a lot of those encoded formats.

SOLD: Music Quest MQX-32M ISA MIDI Card

Ok, I know it's obsolete by orders of magnitude...I also know that there are old automation systems that still tun on DOS PCs and need these cards. I've got the card and the 9-pin to 4xDIN pigtail. Functional when pulled from service many moons ago. So if you have a need, it's yours for the cost of ...

Re: pal needs a lil setup - what's out there these days?

The lil' Focusrites are great for the budget. Around here, every pawn shop has one. And the lil' UADs are better, but at a steeper budget. Add a SM57. Or an MD609. And some other mic (could be almost anything) for contrast. MXL ribbon? Are DS-1's still $40? What's a PEQ? Passive EQs don't seem to be...

Re: rotating speaker alternative

Sparkfun sell "slip rings" that facilitate the whole spinning concept - be it speaker or mic. I think part of the Leslie thing is that the horn is really narrow, so you have a distinct change as the mouth passes by. Normally, if you're selecting a horn, you want something with a wide, even dispersio...

Re: For themaya's is recording sessions straight thru,

If you mean something like a live recording where it's a bunch of different songs in a long take, many DAWs give you the option to use the original track files, and just make some new references to them. It's often a dialog that pops up is you try to copy material from one session into another - "co...

This might also be an application where a more capable headphone amp will make a obvious difference?

space saver stuff
I'm sure there's room for some extra 500 modules in those cargo shorts, too! :P

Cable stables is a genius move.
One which I'll be borrowing.

Actually useful Amazon junk?

After the other thread asking whether the $80 "C414" from Amazon was a useful mic, it leaves me questioning what's actually useful from Amazon? Amazon seem to have fully alibabaized - lots of imported stuff from brands we've never heard of (What's with all of the 5-letter, app-caps names?), and lots...

SM7db? Wow!

I just saw the first ads for this thing - I like the idea.

It's an SM7b with an onboard preamp, licensed from Cloud.

Squarely hits a certain segment of the market, and costs less than an SM7 + Cloudlifter.

Re: Cheap cheap mics? PROAR/Bai Fei Li C414?

That GDIY thread answers the important question: it's an electret condenser capsule, not a real back polarized one. With that funny perforated brass halo. Doesn't mean it can't be used as a microphone - again, on the GDIY thread, they say it wounds pretty good. It would fall over in a hearbeat for m...

Re: In-ear Monitors (IEMs)

I'm currently using Westone UM Pro 20's. Dual balanced armature drivers. They revised the cable maybe 7 years ago, and the revised one is more comfortable & form fitting over my ears than the previous style was. I use them with comply foam tips, which are some sort of memory foam. They fit like a de...

Re: Best drum heads for general recording

Lots of good advice above. I've got Renaissance Ambassadors on the toms of one of my kits, clear Ambassadors on another, with clear Ambys or Diplomats on the bottoms of both. Snares usually get a coated Amby top, clear Amby or Dip on the bottom. Diplomats aren't as easy to find as they used to be. K...
