Re: Best drum heads for general recording
Lots of good advice above. I've got Renaissance Ambassadors on the toms of one of my kits, clear Ambassadors on another, with clear Ambys or Diplomats on the bottoms of both. Snares usually get a coated Amby top, clear Amby or Dip on the bottom. Diplomats aren't as easy to find as they used to be. K...

Is this entrapment?
Because you gotta tell me if it's entrapment.

Re: Drummers Headphones?
The pair I keep around for myself are ancient Koss K6's. They're kinda chunky in a late 70's way, and seal fairly well without being too heavy. I got my first set of them for a dollar at a garage sale when I was in middle school, which I used until they literally fell apart (after years of drummer s...

Re: sm7b died help!
According to the schematic , there's one capacitor in the SM7b, in the presence boost circuit. You say you worked the switches with no change, so it's unlikely to be that cap. Shure have a flat-fee repair policy - for an SM7b, it's $180. It sounds spendy, but when I've used that service on other mic...

Re: Apple Music now lets Indie Artists in.
To the thesis statement in the headline: how do indie artists get into Apple Music? The support article at Apple says to go through a third party - Tunecore, CDBaby, etc. It's been like that for years, and nothing has changed. https://artists.apple.com/support/1108-get-your-next-release-on-apple-music

Be careful with that space echo guy. He might embed riff-raff tags!

Re: Tascam Mystery Part
Looking over the backstory here - it sounds like you're a prime candidate for a basic set of digital calipers. Easy way to verify measurements before ordering. I've got a fancy set at the office for "official work", but also 3 sets of ~$20 ones between the home workbench and my traveling tools. Even...

Re: Considering going back in time with an old MOTU interface
First, are you sure it's not a clocking issue? From the description, it could be in that ballpark. If you're confident in the clocking, and you liked the results you were getting, my vote would be to get the Audient fixed. (And if Audient are difficult in that regard, please report back.) The 828mk2...

Re: TAC MATCHLESS
The first 3 are probably the ones that are intrinsically connected in such a way that the desk won't fully function without them - normalled insert jacks and the like.I've seen some with over 6 or 8 patchebays....
The others are probably just for outboard.

Re: Embedding RIFF tag info in wav files / Sirius XM upload guidelines?
Out of curiosity, I just made an Audacity file with a sine wave in it, exported it, filling out the metadata, then went hunting for it. xxd found it. It's at the very end of the file, in this case (not that it couldn't be at the start of the file, it's just a matter of indexes in the wav header). I ...

Re: Embedding RIFF tag info in wav files / Sirius XM upload guidelines?
And perhaps to clarify one of the fundamental points: Regular Wav file headers contain the basic data some an application can decode the data - sample rate, bit depth, encoding, etc. Basic nuts & bolts stuff required to play the file correctly. It also provides the means to sneak more data in betwee...

Re: Embedding RIFF tag info in wav files / Sirius XM upload guidelines?
I might point you at some more "hacker-level" tools. It sounds like a fundamental question is whether the RIFF data is preserved as the files get passed around between other applications. It would help inform things if you had a way to get an example file that's been processed correctly. There was a...
