Re: Any opinion about molded earplugs ?
A couple tidbits from my time using molded earplugs: The fit is critical - if the molds aren't made right, they won't seal, and therefore don't work. For them to be useful, they have to go as deep as a foam earplug would. They have a limited lifespan - the material they're made of hardens as it ages...

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?
There are a couple Acrolites kicking around. One with a Fyberskin on top. I could get by with just these if I had to. I'm a drummer, so I have a pair of snares that are my gigging primary & backup. The whole reason for them is they can serve interchangably, so they're set up about the same. They're ...

Re: The bottom of the snare
Ah, the bottom of the snare,
Nothing good comes from there,
It squeaks, it buzzes,
It hums and chatters
And we're just gonna use a sample in the mix

Re: Mic pre in pedal form?
The Pigtronix and Eventide are both very solid versions of this idea. So is the Radial Voco Loco (also 15VDC).
For a little, no frills mic pre, look at the Rolls MP13 - claims to work from 9V, tip negative!

Re: Non-functionnal reel-to-reel: should I fix before selling?
Can you either fix it yourself, or find a tech who still works on tape machines? They aren't as easy to find as they used to be. You can do the research for sold listings on Ebay & reverb to see what sort of price you could expect in a sale. But check for completed & sold listings, not active listin...

Re: On-Stage Mic Stand Fix
A few notes: Mic stands use 5/8", 27 TPI threads. Amazon will sell you an import tap and die pair in that size for not too much money. They're fine for occasionally cleaning up threads on stands. I has a situation similar to yours with some cheapo stands - the bolt and handle had bad chrome that was...

It takes 5 seconds.
Whattya do then you've kicked out the jams, but can't kick out the pancreatic cancer?

Re: Thoughts on the ZED-428
A recording board usually has two signal paths. One is for stuff coming in, going to tape. The other is for listening to the output of the multitrack. Both active without patching or switching on the desk. Just disable the track arming on the recorder. The first is usually accomplished with busses o...

Re: Quirky Mastering Situation
If this speaker is the gold standard that the masters have to meet, so be it. But it's not working, and it's unclear why. You're going to need to do some experimentation to figure out what it takes. And you'll need a mastering engineer who is willing to go the extra mile to do it. So try everything ...

Re: delivery resolutions for digital
If they're pressing CDs, then this seems sensible.
Even if you're just using them for access to streaming, 16/44.1 is higher fidelity than a lot of those encoded formats.
